For those of you who have seen my other posts on here, you will no doubt already be aware that I am a "stats man" and like to follow trends in horse racing to help me find winners. Some will scoff outright and gives reasons to suggest that I am wasting my time, but it’s my hobby, my time, my money and my fun. Don’t worry, this is not a rant it’s just me way of saying, if you don’t want to listen then please stop and try some of the other posts, but if you do then perhaps I can provide some insights into helping find some nice winners. No scam, no rubbish, just something that you can do yourself.
So here’s the deal, from the last 16 Grade 2 Jumps races that I have analysed this season, 15 winners have followed the trends. That means that selecting just from those that follow the trends, only once has this meant that the shortlist has not contained the winner…

Leamington Novices’ Hurdle 4/7 57% Three Musketeers – Won 6/1Sure some of those might have been obvious, e.g. Faugheen + The New One but you don’t make a lot of money from smaller bets backing odds on so winners like Medinas 8/1, Wishfull Thinking 13/2 and most recently Three Musketeers 6/1 are the ones that us "fun punters" enjoy most.
There are 6 Grade 2 races coming up this weekend, so hopefully there will be a few winners in amongst them that follow the trends. Fingers crossed !!

I probably need to comment on my selection, I am going each way on Desert Cry mainly due to his record on Heavy and I think there is a possible chance that The New One might just struggle a little on this going here at Haydock. Desert Cry receives 8lbs but is rated 18lbs lower the question is whether 10lbs can be absorbed by the going ? The New One has raced only once on Heavy and finished second, at the same time of year in 2013. Desert Cry has run 6 times on heavy, winning 3 and coming second twice. He;s twice a winner at Haydock once on Heavy going. If there is a chance to back against The New One, then I think this is one of the rare opportunities and at 16/1 a place at ¼ odds will return more than backing TNO to win at 1/6.= = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

There are just 2 following the trend…
Straidnahanna
TonvadosaI have looked a little more closely and found that the last 5 winners of this race had won both of their previous races. Only Straidnahanna has won both.
I also noticed that 7 of the last 8 winners had an SP of 3/1 or shorter with the other having odds of 14/1, so could this be another instance of that rule being broken as he is currently priced 14/1 in a couple of places as I write this.
I am therefore going to take a chance with Straidnahanna and as there are 9 runners, I will take the insurance of an each way bet.

Straidahanna was third at 11/2 but 2 non-runners meant no payout. It would have been nice to have collected on the place at 14/1. Still, there’s always bext weekend
