Some fascinating match-ups at Gowran tomorrow. The pick of them for me is Stone Hard vs Supasundae in the two mile novice hurdle. There are not many of last season’s bumper horses who I’m looking forward to seeing over hurdles more than this pair and it’s exciting but bittersweet that they clash here. I think Supasundae could make up into a Supreme Novice sort and the two mile trip should suit him more so than Stone Hard, but the heavy ground can be a great leveler and the Mullins horse has been very impressive in testing conditions.

The beginners chase sees highly rated hurdler Monksland make a belated start to a chasing career against two promising horses in Roi Des Francs and Noble Endeavour. When horses spend a prolonged period of time hurdling I always look to take them on and even though he’ll be a warm either I think one of the others may turn him over, possibly Roi Des Francs who will be more at home on this ground than he was at the spring festivals.

The BMW Chase is the big race of the day and there’s an excellent turnout with Smashing, Jarry D’Honneur, Tennis Cap and Noble Emperor lining up. I don’t think Noble Emperor has been campaigned particularly well, looking like a horse with plenty of ability but probably not a three miler. I think he’s a Grade 2 horse but he may have bigger targets ahead. Jarry D’Honneur and Tennis Cap have shown a decent level of form but nothing as good as Smashing and this looks an excellent opportunity for him. Smashing will love the ground, the trip is perfect for him and he gets weight from his rivals, at 2/1 he’s the NAP of the day.

The novice hurdle looks worth a watch too, with a Ricci recruit and a Gigginstown bumper winner taking each other on.

Nice card Tommy, and I think you’re right, conditions of the race suit Smashing to the ground, and he’s a very worthy favourite. Nice line up, though keeping everything crossed that Operating show’s some zest, hoping he can bounce back from his long absence.

Also looking forward to seeing Noble Endeavour as well, think he could land a few prizes this year.

Thought Supasundae was most disappointing today. I hope he is better than that unless of course the front 2 are something special
