They claimed the statement was on his official Twitter feed, which it isn’t.
February 28, 2021 at 19:29 #1525918Any idiot could have knocked up that WhatsApp message in two minutes flat. I’ll reserve judgement until we hear officially.
February 28, 2021 at 19:29 #1525919Surely the sportinglife would know if the message came from Elliott?
Value Is EverythingFebruary 28, 2021 at 19:36 #1525920Seems the sportinglife did not know whether the statement came from Elliott.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 28, 2021 at 19:40 #1525921Too late now. Ex Ruby has just had him hung, drawn and quartered him regardless.
February 28, 2021 at 19:43 #1525923Well, I’m just standing to my opinion. Not yelling “innocent” or “photoshop” for someone I don’t know.
February 28, 2021 at 19:58 #1525925Probably Gordon was just suffering from depression that day.
February 28, 2021 at 20:12 #1525929Fair enough if the guy has done it, he should get the book thrown at him without a doubt. The SL article has been taken down now, but i am quite sure it said the apology was posted from GE’s official twitter account originally not what’s app. Shoddy journalism however you look at it.
February 28, 2021 at 20:13 #1525930That photo is surely photoshopped
Doesn’t even look a good photoshop, Gordon is much blurrier than the rest of the image
This stinks of the anti horse racing people attempting to get horse racing in the news for bad reasons just before Cheltenham to me
February 28, 2021 at 20:13 #1525931I’ve no dog in this fight and can take Elliott or leave him, but it must be 100/1 on that the photo is genuine. It’s 24 hours or more since it was published. He’s talked about cooperation and investigation – there is no investigation to be done so far as Elliott is concerned. Or, if there is, it consists of a single question – Guilty?
If the answer is no, then no more input from Elliott is needed, and he is free to state publicly whatever he wants to.
If the answer is yes, then that’s all the authorities have to announce, along with the punishment or a rider that the punishment will be decided next week, or whenever.

Joe knows
February 28, 2021 at 20:42 #1525934Exactly that, if the photo was fake it would have been denied immediately, simple as that.
It’s not a huge surprise, I’m not saying horses dying is day to day business for trainers, but at such a huge yard, it’s not going to be such a shocking and saddening experience to the likes of Elliott as it would be to us or the general public. Compare it if you like to doctors turning to jokes to deal with the death of patients, it doesn’t mean they don’t care for the patients and get hurt by losses. Context, context, context. Sadly people selling or reading news care little for context.
I’ve never thought a huge amount about Elliott as a man, he has always come across very much business comes first. But, the image is not contextualised, it is a snapshot in time where he may briefly have made light of the situation, so while I think the image is real and I think the bloke is an idiot, I don’t think it’s fair to label him much beyond that without context and understanding.
Bringing it back to what it does to racing’s reputation, who knows, time will tell, not great is it?
February 28, 2021 at 20:44 #1525935What grounds would they have for a punishment Joe? A disrepute charge?
February 28, 2021 at 20:57 #1525938If the photo is genuine, he could be charged under Rule 272 “preserving the good reputation of horse racing”.
An individual can be sanctioned if found to have acted in a manner “prejudicial to the integrity, proper conduct or good reputation of horse racing.” If guilty, the authorities have the power to suspend a licence as well as fines.
February 28, 2021 at 21:05 #1525939Is that in the Irish rules, CAS? I wasn’t sure if they had that type of charge, which is all they could reasonably act on.
I’m not sure it would bother the Gigginstown ‘lads’ too much, but I think Chevely Park would want their horses out of there immediately if the picture is genuine.
February 28, 2021 at 21:17 #1525942Yes, I read it in an article in the Irish Times:

Sure, trainers might become somewhat inured to death by familiarity with it but sitting astride a carcass with phone glued to ear whilst grinning and waving some sort of v-sign could perhaps be interpreted as ‘not giving a flying fk’ couldn’t it?
Shares in Pedigree Chum perhaps – get in!!
