We all feel sorry for his staff. I trust they will obtain gainful and rewarding employment elsewhere.
March 3, 2021 at 01:03 #1526843“A typical moronic reply from you, FF”

Clints, I very much doubt that GE is the sort of person to take his own life.
March 3, 2021 at 01:05 #1526845Agree we can’t be Judge and Jury on here but let’s not forget that what this man did was abhorrent, even a 4 year old would have known how to show more respect than he did to a dead animal.
His ill thought out apology just made it worse followed by the apology we all wanted to hear..if he had actually penned it himself.
Like most, I just want to stay with what’s known to be true and Elliott and James by their own admission have shown a huge disrespect to a dead horse producing an image and video (that I won”t watch) that is hard to erase from your mind. Staff have lost their beloved horses and probably their jobs and the Empire that he built up is now crumbling around him.
Elliott has to take whatever punishment the IHRB deem fit for such a despicable action and James also.
Unless other incidents unfold I imagine both could be back after hopefully a long period in the wilderness but doubt that Elliot will ever regain the trust of some owners and will struggle at future Festivals .. severe punishment in itself I guess..silly man and stupid jockey.

Only in your eyes, FF, which means Diddly Squat to me
March 3, 2021 at 01:11 #1526848How many times has that statement been said about people who commit suicide Tank? You never can tell what goes through peoples heads. Anyway I have said my bit now.

Abrasive types like GE think too much of themselves to ever consider suicide.
March 3, 2021 at 01:21 #1526851You’re just showing concern Clints and depression can take your mind to all sorts of dark places..I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 3, 2021 at 07:03 #1526855Good post Clints.
I usually watch some racing every day on RTV/SSR but I could not face it yesterday. And Cheltenham, which was always going to be a bit flat this year with no crowds, now has a long shadow cast over it.
It is all starting to unravel for Elliott with CPS and now the Morans leaving. I reckon JP McManus will be next. I have seen him give interviews where he gets all sentimental about his retired horses, so I cannot believe he will still want to be associated with Elliott.
Having said all that, I still think Elliott deserves a chance of redemption. He obviously has to receive a severe reprimand for bringing racing into disrepute but he is still young and I do not think the rest of his life should be ruined.
March 3, 2021 at 07:38 #1526857My thoughts exactly Clints but far more eloquently put than I could have attempted.
I just feel really really sad that the only sport I am truly passionate about could be being dragged through the mud like this.
What a bloody shame.
March 3, 2021 at 08:21 #1526864Yeah FF, i should have clarified in that post that the staff also are in a horiffic position and for someone above to suggest theyll find other jobs is just a joke.
Sad times from a likely a one minute lapse or judgement thats caused an insurmountable amount of chaos to the yard and staff.
The lack of empathy is astounding, like ive said multiple times now, theres been FAR worse happen in the sport with doping live horses to the point of almost death. This is nowhere near that level, nowhere atall.
None of us here contribute anything to the sport in the way that gordons yard has until this one photo but yet were acting like its “our sport”, its not. Not atall.
I really hope he,the yard and the staff recover from this down the line.
Anyway like you have said FF this thread is worse than twitter and ill be avoiding it from now on.
March 3, 2021 at 08:55 #1526867He’s paying the price for a moment of madness but was it just one incident or was he just caught once? If he could do something like that then I’d be surprised if he did it just once. His statement on Sunday night was just bizarre. He will be sanctioned and should be sanctioned but there has to be a way back for him eventually. I reckon he has learned his lesson and watching Cheevely Park and The Moran’s leave will have hurt. He has a brilliant facility there at Culluntra and I hope he gets the chance to rebuild his crumbling empire
March 3, 2021 at 09:46 #1526869The Moran horses have not been moved after all. At least not yet.
March 3, 2021 at 09:54 #1526870As drone highlighted, that Zoe Williams piece is well worth reading. For me, it wraps up perfectly what racing faces at all times, never mind now.
March 3, 2021 at 10:31 #1526873As someone who has loved horse racing from the early 80s onward, but has detested animal cruelty all my life, the balance and justification to myself over running horses was this mantra that without racing they would not have been born, without racing they would not get looked after so well, fed well, loved by owners and all the staff involved, safety a key as far as practicable. Seeing an oafish trainer and 2 others having jolly japes around a dead horse makes you wonder and does not sit well at all.
Is there even a way back for Elliot over this ? No reporter who loves horses worth their salt would interview him, no owner who loves their horses would trust him, and, imagine the booing at places like Cheltenham and Aintree when he steps up to collect a trophy.
Sad times.
March 3, 2021 at 10:51 #1526875I think that’s about right. Let the ‘market’ decide as it were. Of course some sort of ban should be handed down, enough to cover the major festival period next year as well as this perhaps. After that, if others in racing don’t wish to associate with him they don’t have to. Owners, jocks etc are free to go elsewhere. That’s the ultimate punishment.
I base that purely on this one image, which on its own is not grounds for a life ban imo. Should anything else come to light then things could get serious in terms of a ban or worse.

Quite. It’s utterly beyond me that people are hoping there’s some way back for Elliott. The guy is toxic, absolutely toxic. He has gifted the biggest and most potent stick to racing’s enemies to beat us all with.
He should be removed from racing forthwith and permanently. If he stays in racing somehow, we will just watch the unedifying dismantling of his career anyway, so racing’s authorities may as well act like adults and do the right thing. This will provide clarity, a defined ending and send an unequivocal message that any such actions like his will absolutely not stand in this sport.
