I have had just the one bet today in Goodwoods 4,20,what used to be known as the Predominate Stakes, the last Derby trial.I am convinced
Picture Editor
needs this trip and his gallop with Frankel in the Greenham the other day will have shaken off the cobwebs,4/1 with Corals seems very generous to me,i dont see why Badeel should be a 6/4fav,his win at Nottingham was pleasing to the eye the other day but his time was poor, this
Masked Marvel
is another who will improve for a step up in trip,Mr Gosden will be using him as a marker for his real St Leger horse,Nathaniel.

£280 win 4/1 Corals, Goodwood 4,20pm.
May 18, 2011 at 16:09 #355972That was a serious St Leger performance from
Masked Marvel
there,i can see a return for the Gordon Stakes then Great Voltigeur, unfortunately i haven’t seen a price anywhere,Mr Gosden will have a strong hand again come September,i might just phone Corals out of interest.
Picture Editor
lacks the scope of the winner to be anything special i’m afraid.
May 18, 2011 at 17:00 #355978Masked Marvel I believe was the first horse I backed for the Derby after his debut. 40/1 each-way. He’s nowhere near good enough for the Derby but as Gordon says, Leger might be a possibility.
Gordon – Hunt Cup and Wokingham fancies?
May 18, 2011 at 17:14 #355981Just watched them now. Nothing to bother the Epsom winning post there. Looks like we’ve got an incredibly poor lot of 3yo fillies this year. The Oaks trials this year have been nothing short of farcical, only good horse to contest them was Wonder of Wonders. Derby trials haven’t been up to much either. Predominate, Derby Trial, Dee & Chester Vase all rubbish, Dante run at 2-mile pace. There doesn’t look to be much in the way of middle-distance horses in France, so I wouldn’t be surprised to have a 4yo winner of the Arc. This is the first year in 4 in which I’ve actually been willing to consider older horses as an Arc winner.

Zarkava,i currently have only one horse i’m interested in for the Hunt Cup and that is
Man of Action
,basically his profile suits my criteria,he trades at 20/1 at the moment 23’s on the machine.
The Wokingham is an old favourite of mine ever since my all time favourite sprinter proved you can be born a handicapper and grow into a Group 1 winner,Petong
,what a horse! Anyway i still believe in Group horses carrying their share of weight can win the top handicap sprints and this year my 2 class sprinters masquerading as handicappers are
Victoire de Lyphar
,16’s and
Hoof it
,10’s both have masses of scope. If Sir Reginald 25’s wasn’t a 3yo i would give him a big shout also. What do you have your eye on Sacred one?

Man of Action’s a very interesting one indeed. I’m amazed Victoire de L is entered. Would’ve thought he’d get a Jubilee entry. Dandy speaks so highly of him in Mark Howard’s book and more has been written about him than Redford, and far more than any other horse in the yard. He’s Dandy’s horse to follow. If he’s right then 16s will just look ridiculous. Hoof It was impressive last week. Backed him because Mick E said he’s 6 lengths better than Ancient Cross at home. If Hoof It could win it off 105 I’d be amazed. VdL’s a bit high on 103 as well, but I wouldn’t put it past him.
I’m not a big handicap man, Gord, I’m sure you’ve realised. I’m a Group man through and through but this year I’ve really decided to follow horses recommended by bloodstock experts, trainers and Mark Howard.
Green Destiny is Haggas’ horse to follow this year and I’m gutted I got to Newmarket too late to back him the other day.
Point North is the only other horse in my notebook entered in either race (Hunt Cup). Similar prep to Forgotten Voice, 8f handicap at Kempton. He won off 90 pre-Ascot, Point North won off 80. He beat Chiefdom Prince in a maiden at the end of last year but Chiefdom Prince did nothing for the form last time out.
Eton Forever (Hunt Cup) ran in a very hot race LTO but might have completely blown his mark at Donny.
Can’t see any other progressive sorts in the Hunt Cup. I’d be surprised if the winner doesn’t come out of those 3 and Man of Action.
Dorback interests me hugely in the Wokingham. He ran a colossal race the other day in the same race as Mac’s Power, his first outing for a year. He’d be thrown in off 90. He’s got 4 1/2L to find on Mac’s Power – he’s worth at least 3L for the horrible passage he got, maybe more.
Mac’s Power I thought looked good the other day off top weight, delighted that he got beat for us though as I also backed Novellen Lad. Fanshawe wouldn’t have had him anywhere near fit for that. Another Firenze?
Our Jonathan’s also got a big chance. He looked like he could make into a good 3yo but for some reason had an appalling season. Has recaptured his form and should’ve gotten a lot closer last week. His last runs have the comments ‘ran on’ and ‘finished strongly’. Spending this long looking at handicaps is hurting my head so I’ll stop now.

I remember
Point North
alright Sacred, but for all the wrong reasons, did you ever read this interesting thread?

The race in question, that would be some Hunt Cup coup!
http://www.attheraces.com/VideoConsole/ … 11_07_1710May 19, 2011 at 08:24 #356059I like taking on these so called foreign superstar sprinters in this country at short prices,Scenic Blast was a fine example.I dont know how good this ‘Budapest Bullet’is but i know how these Hungarians can exaggerate,i have tasted their Goulash and having been told that a 1000yrs ago it was made from horsemeat i can see why
Overdose
runs so bloody fast! I like the way Tangerine Trees is progressing,he proved it was no fluke beating Captain Dunne and Tax Free at Beverley by going on to win his next 2 races at Newmarket, however i’m going for a horse who has been knocking on the door lately and i reckon his turn could come on Saturday, particularly if the Bullet goes off like one and sets it up for
Prohibit
,he is a solid e/w bet imo at 16/1.
Prohibit
£100 e/w 16/1 Stan James, Temple Stakes.
£2300
May 19, 2011 at 09:01 #356062Hmmm, will watch when I get back but doesn’t sound great. Agree about opposing Overdose, but I don’t know what with. Not a huge Kingsgate Native fan but if he wins this year it’ll be on Saturday.
May 19, 2011 at 09:06 #356063KF: Group Therapy enetered Saturday, think that means they will not be going to Epsom?
Cheers
May 19, 2011 at 21:08 #3561567/4 Dubawi Gold, dont make me laugh.Yet again the bookmakers have priced a race with a false favourite just to draw the Gullible Red Chalk brigade into their clutches. Both
Roderic ‘o’ Connor
and Dunboyne Express are different class and will prove it in Saturdays Irish 2000gns,i could understand Dunboyne being fav as he beat Roderic easily on their debut but my assessment of these 2 Irish colts was that the former was a far more precocious 2yo,i can see both going further in time as 3yo’s and i believe if the real Roderic turns up on Saturday he wins.
Roderic O Connor
£300 win 10/3 Tote, Irish 2000gns.
£2000
May 20, 2011 at 00:09 #356178Couldn’t be confident backing your fella. Joseph on his back, clearly wasn’t fully tuned at Newmarket and questions remained about whether he’d trained on and perhaps is being prepared for something later in the season. Dunboyne Express I get the feeling has been prepared solely for this race. This is his Derby and whatever he does on Saturday he’ll only go backwards from.
May 20, 2011 at 13:33 #356227In the 3.50 at Yarmouth, Wallis runs for Cumani and Fallon. He’s from a superb nick (King’s Best-Sadler’s Wells) which has produced Workforce, Creachadoir, Modun, Best Alibi, Runaway and Cosmo Meadow. It may be his seasonal reappearance, but at 9/2 I can’t resist.
May 20, 2011 at 18:11 #356259Well spotted Zarkava,i hope you topped up with the 8/1,i have been keeping my powder dry for the weekend but if i had read your post earlier i could easily have been tempted,i do like Kings Best as a Sire i must say, shall watch the race later,Cheers,Gord.
May 20, 2011 at 20:11 #356287This class 2, 5f sprint at York tomorrow is an absolute cracker,my old pal
Tax Free
is handicapped to win this,if he’s kicking his stable wall tonight he’ll make them all go,28/1 is too big for this reliable 9yo.
Waffle
is the young pretender here and his progressive profile puts him in future Group company if he can pull this one off.Last but not least is
Barney Mcgrew
,his last effort,or lack of more like was in a 12k race over C/D,this one is worth 28k to the winner and i can see Barney improving no end for the step up in prize money!
There are 5 places up for grabs with SkyBet at 1/4 odds,i know their prices are a touch shorter but that 5th place can be a saviour.Waffle
£100 e/w 7/1 SkyBet
Barney Mcgrew
£50 e/w 10/1 SkyBet
Tax Free
£25 e/w 28/1 SkyBet.

4/1 Boylesports best odds guaranteed or 9/2 Stan James. Took the bigger price and paid for it. Rotar Wing and Razldazl Jayeffkay bolstered the kitty though and got pretty much up to what I should’ve been on.
May 21, 2011 at 08:26 #356362Hello king, hopefully you’ll be collecting off Barney McGrew today. Willing to give him another chance also. Fingers crossed. If he doesn’t come in, good luck to your other pair.
