Having spent most of today studying,i haven’t seen a race,i decided to put my money where my mouth is and have backed my 2 ‘Losers’
Strike up the band
and
Captain Dunne
for the Dash at Epsom, incredibly there is nearly a 2 stone turnaround in the weights, favouring Strike and still the Captain is favourite! My concern that Strike may miss the cut is helped by the fact that Dandy has 6 declared and if Strike needs about 10 to drop out to guarantee a run,i’m sure Dandy will know what to do.Kevin ryan also has 6 declared and he will probably run 3 at the most, then there’s Richard Fahey with 4 and Tim Easterby with 3 so i am pretty confident Strike will get in,all he needs now is Good ground and a decent draw.I am staying loyal to the Captain even if he is Top weight because he has never been better,he is absolutely buzzing and if he brings his A Game to Epsom,he will just about make it home on a course that suits.
Strike up the band
£100 e/w 25/1 Hills,Epsom Dash.
Captain Dunne
£100 e/w 10/1 Victor Chandler, Epsom Dash.
£5100
June 4, 2011 at 15:17 #358854That was an exciting Derby, well done all the Pour Moi supporters,i was cheering the Queens horse on as soon as i knew Seville was beat,(which wasn’t very long),my first impressions are that the winner came from an even more impossible position than Dancing Brave,i thought Carlton ran a blinder too,he looks a proper Arc horse now!
June 4, 2011 at 17:01 #358902Nice win with Captain Dunne "King". I’d read this morning you were going for him along with Strike Up The Band, coincidentally my 2 for the race as well. Didn’t want to jinx them, so didn’t add my tuppence worth beforehand. Unfortunately, just went for the rev Exacta, cos I’m a greedy……..

Still, on the bright side, didn’t waste anything on Barney McGrew today. Every cloud.
June 4, 2011 at 18:56 #358932Cheers VTC,i have eased off Barney Mcgrew for now and have a sneaky feeling he is being aimed at a big target,Ayr Gold Cup again? perhaps.Strike up the band is proving expensive and his form figures suggest he’s too unreliable,he was thrown in today and yet failed miserably, thank goodness ‘The Captain’ has kept his form, for one so big in frame he is bloody quick,he deserved that and it goes a long way to making up for that mugging in France.Seville was too bad to be true and that sort of form leaves a bit of a headache to evaluate,on a line through Carlton House he should have been in the mix,we’ll see! Royal Ascot is only round the corner now and i shall see how good my
Memory
is then.Keep your eye out for
Victoire de Lyphar
he has come on a ton, mind you he weighs about that in the winter.
June 4, 2011 at 20:55 #358948What a fascinating couple of days at Epsom we have witnessed, Frankie dropping his hands in a classic,Kieren thinking he’s above the law then pleading poverty,Ryan Moore proving its all an act when he says riding for the Queen doesn’t faze him,he proved today that when the Kitchen got hot he burned!Connections of Carlton House knew they had a Derby Winner on their hands and the horse will have improved again for the run today, all that nonsense from Stoutey suggesting he was just being a bit of a lad at York proved that in reality he is a very highly strung individual who needed his own handler to load him, this years Epsom meeting has done nothing for PR between those who benefit from the sport and those who actually fund it.The
Indian Trail
is best left to the Apache!
June 5, 2011 at 11:40 #359020Well done with Captain Dunne! I went for Confessional in the race but had yours down as the main danger – I was gutted that I didn’t back it but pleased someone else did
June 5, 2011 at 13:46 #359058Headlad,the Dash is a race that has always appealed to my mad side and yesterdays was mad but the best horse undoubtedly won and deservedly so, however its common knowledge these days the Captain doesn’t actually get 5f incredibly, but what he showed yesterday was the will to win,i thought 50yds from the line he was going to get swamped.
Confessional
is a winner in waiting and waiting is the name of the game in Horseracing,i thought his Chester run was eyecatching when the Captain was 2nd,the horse to take from the race though is
Jamesway
just watch him win the York sprint Victiore won last year now!
June 5, 2011 at 14:03 #359062I haven’t got a clue if there’s a draw bias at Chantilly over 5f but being a student of form i have to stick with
Prohibit
today,he really has improved over the years and deserves a break,i know
Inxile
is a cracking price at 9/2 but again i’m deserting him for Jim Crowleys mount as Trotter should set it up for them and to be honest he really needs to deliver today if he has any chance of putting it down to the big guns in the Kings stand, fingers crossed and that!
Prohibit
£100 e/w 8/1 1/4 odds a place 4.0pm Chantilly
£5200
June 5, 2011 at 16:14 #359084Its obvious from those who read my drivel that this game is all about finding the elusive winner,i like to spot a horse and plot a route i think it will take thereby allowing me to get on early and hopefully get the best Ante-Post prices.I believe i have found an exceptional E/W bet for the Kings Stand at Royal Ascot in the shape of
Prohibit
,i took the 40/1 with Victor Chandler early doors as i think Ascot is a course that suits this fellow, the uphill finish will play to his strengths,he is in tip top shape and is recording his best ever efforts this season, this is all in my opinion of course and i would appreciate anyone elses opinion in the poll below.
June 5, 2011 at 16:31 #359086I would do if i knew how to create the bloody thing!!
June 5, 2011 at 20:43 #359142I have been going through the Wokingham decs again for the umpteenth time this evening and of the 119 currently entered i have narrowed it down to just 4.I’m obviously not the only one who’s been burning the midnight oil as the Bookmakers have priced it up pretty shrewdly.
Hoof it
is an obvious choice,he’s improving faster than Ryan Moores ability to string a sentance together but there are a lot of horses who will fancy a pop at him at these current marks,i have never seen a double figure price available on him and at 7/1 he’s just too short.
Deacon Blues
is another who has to be placed at least, this fellow looks just like his owners other top handicap sprinters Zidane and Frizzante and is handicapped to run a big race.
Dafeef
would be my big priced outsider at 25/1,he’s back with Mr Haggas who knows how to plot one and his form through Bated Breath stands out,i do think he would prefer a bit of cut though. My Selection is a confident one,i am totally convinced this is a group horse and his form is there for all to see,i asked Corals if they would lay me £500 e/w at 16/1 and they said Not a chance,i take that as a compliment, watch his price tumble now!
Victoire de Lyphar
£250 e/w 16/1 Corals Wokingham.
£4700
June 5, 2011 at 21:15 #359151Sod’s law, Gord. Was all over SUTB but not Captain Dunne. Urgh. Very well done though. Lemaire rather screwed me on Behkabad today as well. Nice to know of the top 10 jockeys in Europe have cost me about £6000 in the space of 3 days.
June 5, 2011 at 21:51 #359158If Prohibit’s an each way steal for the Kings Stand, what does that make Laddies Poker Two for the Golden Jubilee?

June 6, 2011 at 12:05 #359224Kingfisher i’ve been following this thread for a while now and i’ve been impressed, you seem to know your stuff (a lot more than i do anyway).
Just wondering where you would think Indian trail is likely to head next, caught my eye in the Dash on Saturday and wouldn’t mind gathering a few pound to have a decent bet on him next time out!
June 6, 2011 at 20:08 #359296If Prohibit’s an each way steal for the Kings Stand, what does that make Laddies Poker Two for the Golden Jubilee?

Tommy,
Laddies Poker Two
is a 16/1 shot for the Golden Jubilee and only 14/1 for the Kings Stand,if Jeremy pulls another genius piece of training off with the mare this year,he is undoubtedly the real Ante-Post King, her performance last year was enough to win a Golden Jubilee so i certainly wouldn’t put you off her,the market will speak volumes about her chances come the day,she wont go for the 5f race though.

Fran you will have to take my word for it but
Indian Trail
had been trained for the Dash all year and another 50yds would have seen him win it for the 2nd time,if you want to have a bet on him this season wait until Glorious Goodwood there’s a 5f 0-90 handicap that suits him well.Indian Trail is an absolute star, for an 11yo to cover 5f in 54 secs is incredible, what makes it even more of a feat is that he is held up off the pace so he actually covers the last furlong and a half faster than anything else,he is also a 10lb better horse on ground thats like the M18,surprising for an Indian Ridge Colt. Its hard to believe for a horse who’s ran near on 80 times that he has never finished 2nd,his glory days were in the Autumn of 07 when Frankie won on him twice in the space of a couple of days culminating in a 100+ rating. His current mark of 80 is down to the superb placing of his Trainer and another view of Saturdays performance shows there’s plenty ability left in ‘That Old Chestnut’!
