Best horse to win it since Kauto in 2007

Got a good run for my money from Bravemansgame. Probably just better at around three miles, but lost nothing in defeat here.

Hewick ran a cracker and is such an adaptable sort, unlucky to come down and thankfully OK.

Ahoy Senor jumped as well as he ever has and had some good horses struggling…, then one error and that’s it. Sounds Russian brought down before we had a chance to see what he had, but I’m convinced he can win at Grade 1 level.

Winner was class. If he stays fit he’ll likely repeat.

All horses confirmed ok….best news of all.

Thanks for that LD, I was getting excited for Ahoy Senor, he
hadn’t put a foot wrong, and then….grooooaaaaan. So happy
to hear he is up and okay. I don’t think anything was beating
    the winner, a special horse.

Fabulous race with plenty of talking points. Fair play to the winner, he did it the hard way.

I’d love to see this lot clash again at Aintree or Punchestown, but I suspect that’ll be it for the season for most of them.

A fantastic Gold Cup and the nice fresh ground really helped.

Gallopin Des Champs is a phenomenal horse. I was on Bravemansgame both to win and without the fav so got plenty of excitement out of the race also.

Heartbroken for poor Hewick though, he was running a blinder. Imagine if Hanlon had properly targeted this race with a prep run. He wouldn’t have been far off Bravemansgame.

Noble Yeats eye catching further back. Has to be a good thing in the National.

Sad to see both Minella Indo and A Plus Tard both pull up.

Agree Galopin Des Champs looks exceptional – but plenty of other Gold Cup winners have looked good and not been the same afterwards. I hope he bucks the trend and I think he will but it is something to bear in mind.

Also had a very hard race here being off the bridle for so long….he could quite easily have left his National run here.

Winner v good; didn’t jump well on first circuit, but won going away. It always seems such a punishing race, not surprised it’s hard to follow up. Will need to watch it again to see how APT was going when brought down. Ahoy Senor seemed full of running at the time

Hewick is walking sound after the race. :good: https://twitter.com/jhanlonracing/status/1636762725253619713
Horses are such strange beasts, they’ll go lame from stepping on a rock but take a tumble jumping at 35+mph and pop right back up.

A Plus Tard was hampered by a faller which wouldn’t have helped. Whether he would’ve pulled up anyway having not had a prep run following a poor last start we will never know.

    True, Mike. But

Townend stayed a bit wider and avoided the carnage or “the deadwood” as Willie said in his post-race interview.

The King george, betfair chase, savills chase and Irish gold cup winners jumping the 2nd last in a line

Doesn’t get better than that in a gold cup does it

Best GC since at least 2018 and before this 2015. GDC looked knackered at the end. Just hope it doesn’t do to many a GC winner and finish him. Still only 7 so let’s hope we have another 3-4 years of top class running from him.

Great race and class won in the end. It will take some horse to beat him next year.
