I had heard Hewick was unlikely to go if the ground was too soft, which makes little sense to me as he won at Far Hills over yielding.

Kempton was soft so I’d be surprised if BMG was pulled early , I expect all the trainers will watch the first couple of races to see how the ground is

These conditions really would have suited L’Homme Presse down to a tee. Such a shame he couldn’t make it.

All the same I still think this is the best renewal since 2011 and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds.

As it has been made clear to me this week that my betting on a horse adds 10lbs to its impost I will be sitting this one out, but will of course be cheering on Hewick.

Covering Hewick here at 33’s, still kicking myself for not betting him at Sandown and Galway

Eldorado Allen is 150-1, fill your ew boots, trip and ground will be fine, his chase form here is good and he has run solid races all season and not been given a hard time.

Something a bit dodge about Stattler. Patrick was scrubbing his head off after one fence. Willie interviewed before the race: very slim ew chance. They knew he was slightly off I reckon
