December 15, 2016 at 08:48 #1277235Does anyone know much about this Alary, a French horse bought by the Potts to go for this year’s Gold Cup.
With Cue Card, Thistlecrack and Native River already is Tizzard going for a Michael Dickinson?

Alary has no chance on the form i’ve seen.
December 27, 2016 at 01:58 #1278668Not quite Joe, that Betbright Chase, where he could be heading, will be no walk in the park against seasoned campaigners, but yeah, not far off it, and he’s almost there. Was great to see that from him today, and hard not to be enthusiastic about him.
December 27, 2016 at 14:37 #1278758Any news on Cue Card.?
I see he is very short for the RyanairGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
December 27, 2016 at 17:16 #1278798I don’t like that Betbright Chase as a trial, Bobby and would rather he missed it. Smad Place left his GC chance there last season and Many Clouds did the same the season before, both in desperate ground. Best avoided.
Well done again on spotting Native River as a prospect – fine shout. I’d have sold my soul to bet against him when you made that call
December 28, 2016 at 02:33 #1278868Not one of those to have a huge price on Thistlecrack unfortunately.
Although I do have him at 7/2 as well as my 5/1 KG and GC double.
Well done to those on very early on.
Of course he still has to win yet. But he will.
He runs, he wins.
December 28, 2016 at 11:58 #1278911Thanks Joe, it’s nice to call one right, makes the bad calls easier to forget lol

Probably thinking along the lines of last year when he took the cleeve hurdle on the same card. Similar break between races for another tilt at the festival. Cheltenham was also his least assured round of jumping in 4 chase starts to date so I can see where Tizzard is coming from with the “more experience” comment.
December 28, 2016 at 12:16 #1278916Having watched the welsh national again, I couldn’t have Native River out of the places for the Gold Cup were he to head there, especially with the question marks over so many of the runners.
Obviously missed the boat with regards to the price but had a few quid e/w at Hills at 12’s.
December 28, 2016 at 15:45 #1278969I’m a little bit miffed to read that Cue Card might avoid the Gold Cup because Tizzard doesn’t want all three of them in the same race together? Surely that’s for the owner to decide? She’s got a live shot at the gold cup, but has to settle for a lesser prize because the trainer has two other horses with chances? This is becoming frustratingly common these days.
I bet Rich Ricci is regretting not letting Vautour take his chances in the gold cup, given the way he won the Ryanair. I’ve never seen an owner so disappointed with winning a grade 1 at the Cheltenham Festival. He was pressured/bullied into making that decision by a trainer with ulterior motives and now we’ll never know.
The same thing is happening again, this time in the Tizzard camp.
December 28, 2016 at 15:59 #1278972Or maybe he sees the 3 horses work at home and has just watched Thistlecrack easily put Cue card away and thinks its best to win a grade 1 at the festival than place at best in the big one?
I’m only playing out the other point of view by the way, I take on yours but its a bit early to say hes bullying the Cue card connections to take in the Ryanair instead.December 28, 2016 at 17:17 #1278982Ryanair would be a rank bad decision for Cue Card unless it’s a slog. He’s an out and out stayer these days imo.
Tizz did say that the owners would have the final say. Whatever happens, it’s going to be a belting Ryanair. As I mentioned on the Lexus thread, don’t be surprised to see Djakadam in it.
As to R Ricci – nobody deserves to lose a horse – but he sacrificed a Gold Cup to bow to Mullins. If you have a healthy horse at the festival, you go for the premier race because you never know if your horse will be in that shape again. Mullins, of all people, should have known that.

Other than Kempton when has looked an out and out stayer?
Most of his wins have involved him tanking along and being produced on the bridle. The exact opposite of an out and out stayer. Personally, I doubt he will have an issue with a drop back in trip.
