July 24, 2008 at 14:54 #174593With the absence of the Godolfin horses in the big ones what does Frankie do? He is just too good to be sidelined. Why is he not being grabbed up?Does nobody want him ?
July 24, 2008 at 22:10 #174636Strong rumour he’s coming over for a few Barney Curley job horses at Galway. Should help the price.
July 27, 2008 at 11:55 #174995The Ballydoyle juggernaut rolled on yesterday, sweeping aside the little £30k buys like Youmzain. It now heads to Goodwood to continue its dominance of Grade 1 races in Eire and the UK.
I have nothing particularly against them or even their use of pacemakers etc but don’t believe the polarisation is good for the wider appeal of racing.
The only operation in the UK apparantly capable of competing is Godolphin. In amongst their operation to breed/buy at sales/ purchase out of other ownership ,they could field no contender yesterday. The operation took itself off to York instead fo a Group 2. Their representative, a transferee from Mark Johnston, was beaten and Frankie fell off while pulling up.Just about sums up their stock at this time.
As for Frankie, how much desire and dedication does the part time Ascot PR man and pizza salesman have left?
Whatever his alleged shortcomings, yesterday’s BBC piece on Richard Hughes was quite poignant- living off the odd Kit Kat and coffee and sweating in a hot bath and rubber suit type thing.July 27, 2008 at 12:01 #174998When watching the finish of the King George yesterday, I thought it summed up the difference between Godolphin and Coolmore. When the horse that they used to own loomed up and looked likely to defeat their latest star, events conspire to make them come out smelling of roses again. If the Duke was owned by Godolphin and Papal Bull had used to wear Royal Blue instead of navy, you know well that the Bull would have gone on and won by 2 lengths!
July 27, 2008 at 12:48 #175004Just read that Kerrin McEvoy is going back to Australia, and that Godolphin are not replacing him and have no plans to retain a second Jockey, wonder if they are winding down?
