January 10, 2016 at 09:46 #1229140Enjoy your time with your GF. Well done yesterday,I managed to have a few bob on Mountainous.Otago Trail won as he liked.I do not like backing horses at shorter than 2/1.If you thought a horse had a 70% win chance would you back it at 4/5?or do you have a cut off point.
If you go to back a certainty always buy a return ticket.

Appreciate you
re on a bit of a sabbatical at the moment Ginge, but have had a look at the 2.00 Ludlow today and reckon that there may well be another Otago Trail type bet, again with Venetia Williams
Take The Mick.
All in place for a big run with the others having ground, trip, fitness or form issues. Should go from the front and simply out jump and out stay this field. Now watch it all go bosoms up

Don’t think I am good at identifying value at long odds-on CJ; so 4/5 is normally my cut off point.
However, it’s not set in stone. If there was a big enough “margin for error” I’d make an exception. eg If believing something had a 70% (fair 4/9) and odds available were 4/6 (60%) or better – with difference of 10% or more – giving a large enough margin for error for me to get involved. Might not be right in thinking it a fair 4/9 shot, but am very unlikely to be a full 10%+ out! So I would take the bet. The shorter the price the more “margin for error” I need for a bet.
