I almost did that, Istabraq. Bit of a toss up between backing Rock Eagle each way and backing him win only with a saver on Mirage Dancer. I came down on the latter option only because although imo Barsanti is a bit of a dog these days = therefore wanted to be against him (am trying to LAY a little bit of Barsanti too @ 2.35/1)… He still often manages a place which means imo the place angle is less advantageous regarding Rock Eagle… And (along with Ralph Beckett/Rock Eagle) Sir Michael (Mirage Dancer) is in fantastic form at the moment. :good:

Been trying to find a bet in the 4:10 Curragh tomorrow, but seems as much pace in the race as a funeral cortege.

Fair point re the pace 4.10. Haggas said in the RP that he had heard I Can Fly wouldn’t run, and that’s why he ran the two of his. Then said Beshaayir isn’t as good as One Master. I wonder whether she’ll be ridden closer to the pace tomorrow, not something she’s done often but just a possible! Other than that, perhaps Welds?

    WD with Constantinople!

Yes Jack; Beshaayir is invariably held up these days – more nearer last than first – but did race more prominently as a two year old… And wouldn’t stand much chance if it turns in to a sprint… And Detori is usually tactically aware in these bigger races. Weld’s Yulong Gold Fairy is fully effective tracking pace, so that’s a good shout, but hasn’t led. Red Tea has, but only for her previous trainer and did not run well when doing so – been out the back for Joseph when running well. Only time One Master has raced anything like prominently were the occasions she’s raced at 6f. That said, possible her speed will be an asset if they go slow – even if coming from the rear – provided she settles.

Won’t put it up here, but have just had a saver(ish) bet on One Master @ 4.8/1. Will probably play in-running by backing the front runner/s after they leave the gate.

    ^ Case of damage limitation.
If Magna Grecia wins I break even. +0.4 points
If Magna Grecia wins and Skardu places I win +83.6.
If Too Darn Hot wins I lose -34.7
If Too Darn Hot wins and Skardu places I win +48.5
If Skardu places and the other two are out of it I lose -146.8
If neither Magna or TDH win and Skardu does not place it’s equivelent of a double loss -230

Had I not had the above bets; if having one bet in the Irish Guineas today it would be 101 points Skardu to place @ Evens or better.

GT, how would you bet on the race if you had not backed MG ante-post?

There’s that lack of pace + Haggas wins it with his bigger priced runner in which he said was nowhere near One Master’s level!

    Arrrrgh!

I changed my mind and decided to green out on One Master beforehand without playing on the front runner/s in running. tbh Winner went a good pace in the end, but with all the others (bar one) wanting to be held up they let Beshaayir go. Should’ve had that one.

Yes, Jack; Haggas did say One Master was the better quality horse, but also apparently said Beshaayir was the fitter. Beshaayir going for the Group 2 mares race at Ascot and One Master (because of her 5 lb penalty in that race) the Queen Anne. Good ride by the Italian. Nice to see Haggas having a change of luck too. He’s now committed Maqsad for the Oaks so…

Delighted for Battaash’s stable lad who’s an old racing pal. Got me out of trouble today. :good: …After a disasterous Irish 2000 Guineas.

Did the wrong thing in backing Fabricate (who isn’t the heartiest) each way. Could’ve had a second saver with that place money. Other obvious saver being Elarqam who I’d worked out might get the run of the race yet didn’t back!

The other Goodwood race backed the two market movers of the four runners. Main bet Rock Eagle more than halved in price but could only manage last. Saver bet fav Mirage Dancer won easily.

First proper losing day for a while. -169.4.

    Irish 1000 Guineas:
    33 points @ 14/1 (L) Pretty Pollyanna (min 11/1)
    30 points @ 10/1 (PP) East (min 17/2)
    savers:
    41 points @ 5/2 (B365) Hermosa (min 5/2)
    37 points @ 11/4 (B365) Qabala (min 5/2)

More runners than expected, which is a bit of a shame. But got good prices on the main two bets. Can’t find any other bets in the race. tbh Both main bets are imo no longer value, so if you’re not already on I’d suggest backing Qbala 67 points @ 3.3/1 (min 3/1) on the machine with a saver on Hermosa.

Is a possible bet in the Tatts Gold Cup once it’s taken…
