you
that wanted to judge Imperial Commander on his Gold Cup form Gord, not I.
You
said "…the most important factor to take from the Argento was the fact Cape Tribulation gave 6lb to a
previous Gold Cup Winner
, who was pretty straight from what I saw of him…"
How did you come to the
163
Cape Tribulation Gord if you believe IC ran to around 164? CT gave IC 6 lbs and a half length beating. So if CT ran to 163, IC must have only ran to
156
.
Ginge, let me put it this way for arguments sake.Saturdays Argento chase was won by
Cape Tribulation
a horse rated no more than 165 at the moment,I have no doubts when he goes and wins The Gold Cup itself he’ll be rated nearer 175 so I’m looking at the bigger picture already with him as I’m totally convinced he’s still improving.
Imperial Commander
on the other hand is deteriorating simply due to age and injury,he’s still the same horse who has a Gold cup to his name but wont be the force of old.Nigel definately had him fit enough to win on Saturday as Paddy was oozing confidence on him all the way round, now we know as Gospel that ‘Imperial’ is a far better horse on better ground than he encountered at the weekend in fact the last time he ran on ground like that he was pulled up so I’m considering the effect the ground had on him in my assessment and thats why I’m happy with a mark of 164,you dont think the Official handicapper will drop him to 156 when he puts ‘Cape’ up to 163 do you? No he’s taking into consideration all the elements surrounding this picture, its certainly not Black and White otherwise he’d put ‘Cape’ up to 170 and for as much as some of us know he’ll achieve that mark, suggesting he earned it on Saturday is open to debate. No matter how the ‘IC’ brigade want to dress it up even on Good ground ‘CT’ has his measure these days and 33/1 is just too big,in a match its 4/5 ‘IC’ against 5/4 ‘CT’ and I know who’d I’d like to be on after Saturdays performance!
January 29, 2013 at 18:50 #427908So it is not at all "important" (let alone
"most important"
) that Cape Tribulation beat an ex-Gold Cup winner then, is it Gord?! Cape Tribulation’s rating/chance of winning the Gold Cup has absolutely NOTHING to do with beating an ex-Gold Cup winner… Because that Gold Cup winner did not run anywhere near his Gold Cup form.
Anyway, enough of these word games. Let’s just hope Cape Tribulation (or First Lieutenent) wins.
If it came up soft on Gold Cup day Gord, I’d be interested in backing another of Saturday’s winners for the Blue Riband. And he only won a handicap!

The ‘Most Important’ factor is really the manner in which
Cape Tribulation
won and that was in the style of a Gold Cup winner, dig a bit deeper and he has excellent Cheltenham form,I’ve said it several times on here in the past that the 2 horses to take from the 2009 Albert Bartlett was the winner,a certain Gold Cup horse in
Weapons Amnesty
and the fifth
Cape Tribulation
.As for your handicapper
Katenko
……..Not a prayer!
