Dam Polished Gem has produced some good tough horses , had a look, winners of at least 63 races produced so far . Valac went out to OZ as a maiden and picked up 12 races inc some decent jumps races , only retired year or two back. Always put in from races I saw him in .

Slowest offspring Rich History was sold to Qatar as a non winner , won a couple by looks of it in Qatar , so wins are in excess of 63, ended up at stud in Jordan in desert where he was pampered according to RP report . He was then purchased by Irish stud and is now back there .

“… you couldn’t see him not doing a rinse and repeat in all the same races again next season.”

Much will depend on what horses Coolmore allow to take him on. Jan Brueghel, Illinois and Los Angeles have all looked potential Cup horses this year, the latter in particular looking like possibly the next Yeats.

Let’s see what The Lads decide to do.

Being that he is now the most G1 winning horse that the trainer has ever had, O’Brien’s comment of

“He’s a very special horse and something we’ve never seen before”

is perhaps not quite as eye rolling as it is when he says it about……..well pretty much every good horse they have had.

Los Angeles would be interesting especially at 1m6f-2m where he would obviously have more natural speed than Kyprios but I would be with Kyprios at the Gold trip of 2m4f.

Which direction Los Angeles takes trip wise may well depend on how good their middle distance 3yr olds are next season and it wouldn’t surprise me if he stayed at 10-12f next year (would likely need a designated pacemaker at 10f to ensure a strong end to end gallop).

Kyprios will be 7 next year. The last 30 years, only Yeats has won a Gold Cup that old. So whether he will be the same winning machine next year time will tell.

Kyprios is relatively lightly raced compared to Yeats (or Stradivarius). Some exciting “cup horses” amongst this year’s 3 year olds but they’ll have to be really good to give Kyprios a race.

A peak Kyprios vs a peak Stradivarius. Who do you think would win?

    Course? Distance? Ground?

Well Kyprios beat Stradivarius by a neck at Goodwood. Kyprios was 4 and unbeaten during that season so arguably at his peak.
Stradivarius was 8 and probably past his best. Got to think that Strad would win but we’ll never know.

For me anything at 2m+ and I would always be with Kyprios because I think he is the better stayer, acts on all ground types and also is a much more straight forward ride, he can make it if nobody else does, sit handy or if it is a strong gallop drop in further back.

Kyprios might be a bit more vunerable at 1m6f though as I think Strad has the better turn of foot and he was only beaten a short neck in the 12f Prix Foy and was 3rd behind Ghaiyyath in the 12f Coronation Cup.

Strad is a hold up horse that doesn’t like to be in front too long and unless it is an end to end gallop he could (and did) often find traffic problems coming through the field or being found too far out of his ground when held up in a slowly run race – he is also much more ground dependant as although he won on soft most of his wins were on fast ground.

Strad would need to come with one short sharp late burst of speed so that Kyprios wouldn’t have time to fight back because I don’t think he could beat Kyprios if he got drawn into a protracted home straight battle with him.

Peak Kyprios would beat peak Stradivarius any day of the week.

As football managers say, “the most important ability is availability,” something i wish some NH trainers would recognise. Kyprios keeps turning up and winning

Except for that season he didn’t.

How come he was rated 121 after finishing 2nd to Trawlerman (on a cold October day in 2023) and only 117 when he destroyed all of them in the Ascot Gold Cup 2024? Including a great time for the race itself.
Agree with BF, he keeps turning up and winning and the ground NEVER made a difference.

He didn’t win anything in 2023 due to that joint infection that almost ended his career. Should have won 15 on the trot.
