Unless there’s a late saver, no more bets today.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 19, 2013 at 18:33 #426925Novice Hurdle went to the saver bet, favourite Morning Assembly 10/11 BOG (advised 5/6) beating main bet Mad Brian in to 2nd, (advised @ 10/1, almost halved in price to 11/2).
In the Grade 2 Tofino Boy, main bet advised @ 7/1, paid just under 6/1 with 15p R4, considerably more than the SP of just 2/1. My only bet in the race too! Torfino’s form in winning the Troytown better than 4th last time, when racing against Aupcharlie (2nd there). A return to form would see them much closer and so it proved. Also helped being given a soft lead, Lynch caught out as Russell got first run in the sprint.
Bit concerned where the pace was coming from in the Handicap Hurdle and Matsukaze’s alarming drift just before the off said a lot about how he was going to be ridden. 5/2 early morning, in to 2/1 and then right out to 4/1! One of Paul Carberry’s "ridden like a non-trier"! You can win with these tactics in a strongly run race Paul, not in a slowly run event like this. Still to be asked a question at the back of the field rounding the home turn. Mistakes at the last two hurdles didn’t help, but wouldn’t have troubled the winner ridden like that in a race run like that. Matsukaze’s run can be ignored as far as his prospects go. Just don’t back it again if it looks like being no pace! Especially if Carberry is on board. Rant Over.
My other main bet Beneficial Spirit ran well in 2nd (advised 8/1, SP 4/1), doing best of those chasing the well-ridden winner. Can be expected to improve given a more solidly run race.
Ruby gave Tennis Cap a good ride, allowed to dictate and kicking off the front. May prove difficult for the horse to add to this once reassessed; as may be flattered by the distances.Still, a +55.43 points profit on the day (incl. R4) is pleasing enough.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 20, 2013 at 14:06 #426975Don’t know when my next bet will be. Certainly not today or tomorrow. Possibly Wednesday or Thursday look most likely.

There may be a couple of savers in the morning, one on Tidal Bay and the other Quartz De Thaix. Unfortunately latter was top priced with Stan James when I first looked, @ 18/1. But as I am no longer allowed to bet with them, waited for another bookmaker to go 18’s. Went for dinner and he’s now down to 12/1 and I want better than 12’s to back him! With a lot of money on betfair waiting to back/lay QDT, he’s probably Pricewise. So I’ll see if I can get on as a saver @ 14/1+ in the morning.
In fact: If you can get 16/1 or more I suggest making him a main bet and Hunt Ball just a saver.
