It goes against my natural instincts to suggest a team at 4/9 may be worth a bet, but can’t help thinking that Germany may be value at that price.
Turkey’s squad problems are well known, although I’d still fancy Germany to beat the best 11 (not at 4/9 though). So far I’d say Turkey’s spirit has carried them where their skill alone might not. But suspect they’ll need to be very lucky to get owt out of this.
Don’t think it will be a walk-in-the-park even against the bare bones of Turkey, but 4/9; 1/2; 40/85 ? There will be worse odds-on shots.
What does anyone else think?June 24, 2008 at 20:23 #169988I agree that it’s difficult to see Turkey being able to cope in view of their injury and suspension problems and the Germans look a good bet to win in normal time.
It’s against my instincts though to bet at short prices so I am hoping that the Turkish defence will prove difficult to break down and that the game will remain 0-0 until at least the start of the second half which will cause the odds on the German win to become more generous and I will then bet on them to win in running on BF.Pete
June 24, 2008 at 20:57 #169993I think the Germans will prove far too strong for the Turks –
Germany 2 – Turkey 0 comfortably.
June 25, 2008 at 07:59 #170015It’s about 11/8 Germany in the Half-Time/Full-Time market……….that’ll do for me.
June 25, 2008 at 08:46 #170018Turkey’s name is on this trophy!

I like your optimism David

Aren’t Turkey playing their 3rd choice goalkeeper up front today or something stupid

I think Germany are an absolute shoe in, though I haven’t got the finances to lump in at 4/9 so the 11/8 that Grasshopper refers to is fine for me also.
Hopefully the Germans will win 5-0 with Klose scoring an hat-track and Podolski a few

June 25, 2008 at 14:15 #170052turky head to head with Germany in last 3 games is won 2 drew1 and with their comebacks so far i think they can sneek it, stranger things have happened in football Germany are no value at that price sure they prob will win but how much would you risk at that price to make it worth while??
i also got the Turks in sweepstake C’mon

(was sick when i drew them
)June 25, 2008 at 15:13 #170062I think Turkey will get stuffed.

here all week zippy?June 25, 2008 at 18:43 #170090Not concerned with how these nations have fared against each other in the past – that surely is of no relevance. Germany now 1/2 on Betfair and that, I feel is value.
June 25, 2008 at 18:56 #170096I had the Turks as the best outsiders and I’m sticking with them tonight. A combination of a slow German defence and the Turks cast in the underdog role they love, will spur them on again tonight. A value 4/1 to qualify against the overbet Germans.

Agreed David. In fact, if I had to pick a team to do a Greece in this tournament it’d be Turkey. I don’t think they’ll be a pushover tonight (or at any time). But we’ll see.As you can see from my qoute above, I’ve had a sneaking fancy for Turkey, but, with suspensions/injuries etc. the 1.5 (and possibly slightly more) on Betfair about Germany is a value price in my opinion.
I normally lay odds-shots (& try & buy them back during the game), but I don’t feel good about trying that strategy tonight.
Okay – I can’t define exactly what "value" is. Just a gut feeling with me I suppose.June 25, 2008 at 19:39 #170099I’ve given up using my head n this competition. Double on Turkey & Russia
. What the hell. Stranger things have happened.
June 25, 2008 at 21:41 #170102No sweat!

June 26, 2008 at 09:33 #170152good game and although not the Turks biggest fan, i have to say that they lit up the tournament with some great games and fightbacks against all the odd’s, when you think of the team they had to put out very very unlucky to lose, just hope Spain V Russia is the great game i think it will….
