I don’t really think that Epsom is any different to any other track when it comes to horses getting injured.

August 8, 2007 at 12:54 #110869JohnJ, I think it is the generally accepted view that galloping downhill is a severe test of a young horses legs, whether it be Epsom, Brighton, Lingfield or going into the dip on the Rowley Mile. This is accentuated when the ground is firm as it often is at Epsom in June.

August 8, 2007 at 14:38 #110880Genarally accepted by who? As pointed out, there has only been two fatalities in recent runnings of the Derby. The one in 02, was caused by a heart attack rather than the horse breaking down.
I think somebody posted an excellent post last year in relation to the merits of the Derby being run at Epsom, it could have been Galejade
