I know many of you followed the form of this terrific little horse so I wanted to let you know that sadly Gee Aker was put down at Stratford Racecourse yesterday after taking a fall.
He was a favourite on the yard – a horse with a big heart and an even bigger personality and will be sorely missed. He had a highly amusing habit of trying to throw people off, but only because he had such a great sense of humour. There was not an ounce of malice in this horse and he gave his all on the race track.
To see any horse hit the form of his life at the age of 11 is very special indeed and he gave his connections many great moments and alot of pleasure.
RIP Gee Aker MalayoSeptember 10, 2007 at 09:28 #114267Hi Sulekha,
I’ve just caught up with yesterday’s Stratford results and was saddened to read of Gee Aker’s demise. He’s been with the yard for quite some time, hasn’t he, so no wonder there is such a depth of feeling for him.
As you say, he had put in some fine performances in the right grade this summer, and I guess you couldn’t wait to get him back up to Hexham this autumn to build on his nice runs there earlier in the year.
My commiserations to all involved with him

Lucinda and staff are to be congratulated on rekindling him.

April 21, 2008 at 22:01 #159159It was a nice touch of Hexham to name the race he won last year after him today, and better still that Campbell Gillies was able to boot home Ballynure for Gee Aker’s trainer Lucinda Russell. I’m sure there will have been a few moist eyes at the end.
