Nicky is making nervous noises about the ground for Altior. He seems one of the more sensitive trainers when he believes the going is not right and given the prices I think it’s worth backing a couple against Altior – Fox Norton at 4/1 and Garde La Victoire at 9/1. I’d add a small bet on Traffic Fluide if he weren’t so injury prone.

Newbury have said they’ll have frost covers down for three nights and Henderson complained about their effect on Trials day at Cheltenham (they can make the ground very sticky). I wouldn’t take 1/1 about Altior running yet he’s 4/9 to win.

Thats a good shout, can’t really see past Fox Norton however if Altior is pulled out.

FN was my first inclination (have backed him for QM), but he also wants good ground to be at his best and I wondered if Tizzard would be inclined to give him a tough race this close to the festival. There must be a small chance he too will come out or, at least, the jock will be told to go easy if things are gluey. I never cared for GLV’s jumping style and it still makes me nervy but he’ll handle the ground, is in form and this will be his QM.

I don’t know if he will be fully ready for this Joe, but I’d be kicking
myself if I didn’t have a bet on TRAFFIC FLUIDE. I went
on a bit about him last year, and had him ante post in the QM (which I do
again) although that didn’t go to plan. He is, as you said, injury prone
…..or incredibly unlucky, but he looks like he could be very decent. With
doubts about some of the others, I think 10/1 is worth a bet.

I was very close to clicking on his price, Graham, but Moore has had such lousy luck lately and with this horse. I’ll leave him alone now in order not to jinx you!

Can’t wait to see Altior win by half the track.

Lol, don’t worry about it Joe, I’m well capable of jinxing myself
At least Moore has his stable firing well at the moment, 6 winners in the last
10 days. I was a nose away from the money last year in the Clarence House at big
odds, when Joshua was quite tender on him at the finish. That was after a 9 month
break, so hopefully he can go well again fresh and more importantly keep himself
right for the Festival. I hope he does well enough for Moore to consider the QM
    as opposed to the Ryanair.

Altior has taken a big drift and likewise the others have shortened. Hope you all got on at 4s and above. B-)

I think on soft ground Altoir is vulnerable. We’ve seen recently how these hyped up novices aren’t bomb proof when they meet more experienced opposition.

I am reluctant to say this but hey ho I have my opinion.

Apart from beating Special Tiara when it hadn’t ran for six months Fox Norton has not beaten a top class horse!!
It would have finished fourth behind Douvan at Cheltenham if Vaniteux had stood up!!

To me this points to Altior who should be 1/3 IMO and the 4/7 is massive!!

As most of you know I am not one for backing odds on shots but this is STEALING MONEY!!!!

    GET ON !! :good: :good:

Please tell me none of you are betting against altior?!?
Unless you’re just doing a place bet to come 2nd
Last years supreme has worked out incredibly.
This horse is the real deal and will show that tomorrow to all his doubters.
He’s bigger for this than the arkle!
    Crazy price

presumably people were saying this before thistlecrack ran at cheltenham

he also had very similar credentials, although he had actually won a grade one against older horses, which is something altior hasn’t done

here he has to win a soft ground slog against older horses and he’s 1-2

    thanks but no thanks

I think he’ll probably win but to say it’s crazy to take him on, I’m sorry mate but you’ve brought too much into the hype

He’s won on soft before multiple times and Henderson said if it’s too soft he won’t run so it’s not over the top according to hendo.
But we will see what happens tomorrow.

Just because a horse has hype doesn’t mean that it’s always exaggerated hype.
Yes Thistlecrack was overhyped after KG but Altior won’t disappoint the hype.
The hype is genuine with Altior and tomorrow is his chance to prove that to the non believers

Altior’s form (in what he’s beaten and by how far) is worse than both Fox Norton and Traffic Fluide. That’s not knocking Altior, his form is exceptional for a novice. But this is not a novice race. Undoubted potential means I still expect him to show improved form to win this and should certainly start odds-on, ie has a better chance of winning than losing. However, to back him @ 4/7 (allowing for margin for error) I’d need to believe he’s got a 66%+ chance.

    My 100% book:
60% chance, fair 4/6 Altior (take 4/5 or better) Best price currently available 4/7. No Bet.
20% 4/1 Fox Norton (take 5/1 or better) Best price currently available 7/2. No Bet.
18% 9/2 Traffic Fluide (take 11/2 or better) Best price currently available 7/1. BET!!!!!
2% 50/1 Dodging Bullets (take 80/1 or better) Best price currently available 33/1. No Bet.

At the prices Traffic Fluide is my bet at around 7/1. Hopefully can get some each way on betfair.
Beware of each way bookmaker bets. Gino Trail is double entered, first preference is Warwick. So only 4 are likely to run.
