Didn’t see the Connaught match but saw most of the Tyrone-Down game. The first half was desperate stuff, chronic shooting and very low intensity. Thankfully, the penalty for Down gave the game a bit of life in the second half. I’m not sure how Down managed to throw away victory in the end of it. Bring on the hurling, maybe this will be Wexford’s year
May 19, 2014 at 08:57 #479536After all my excitement in the build up i was underwhelmed at the 1st full weekend of this years Championship.
Down will be kicking themselves, for the 1st 40 minutes or so they were up there with the worst teams i’ve seen in Ulster in the past decade and expected Tyrone to really press on and win by 10-15 points, instead they took the foot off the gas,Tyrone got Morgan sent off and Down got a goal from the Peno and got control in centrefield. I’d be very worried if i was a Tyrone fan at how easy Down got through their defence when running at them,at the same time i’d still expect Tyrone to win the replay,a few players were given a chance and didn’t exactly grab it with both hands,i can see Gormley starting next week for 1.
Roscommon won quite cosily it would appear from what i seen on the Sunday game and they’re a team i could see going well this year,i’m not sure they’ll get past Mayo in Connaught but could have a good run in the qualifiers.
If there is to be a shock in Connaught i can see it coming from Galway, they’ve a wealth of underage talent coming through the past few years and between this year and next year i’d expect a big step up from them(mind you i was thinking similar last year),they’ve also acquired former all star nominee James Kavanagh from Kildare who brings a bit of quality and experience into the forward line, they’ve the easier side of the draw playing London this weekend,i expect at least a 10 point win, poor London certainly won’t have a summer like last years, then they’ve Sligo who i’d expect them to beat and in a final anything could happen.
Kilkenny my early Favs for the Hurling(very original i know),Cody’s dropped a few high profile players to the bench most notably the great Tommy Walsh and replaced him with his brother
and Cody has given gametime to something like 30 odd players in the league i think i read. That’s in contrast to the past few years where he has relied on the same old faces for the majority of time.May 23, 2014 at 15:03 #479832Paddypower have Galway -5 at even money this Sunday
This could be the bet of the Season already. London have no hope of going as well this year as they did last. I’ve just been speaking to a good friend of mine based in London that plays a bit and was asked into the fold earlier in the year but declined the offer. He told me a few lads from the club he played for over there last year are on the squad and he told me "they’re barely decent".Galway can be a disappointing side to rely on but this is 1 time i’m confident they’ll win comfortably and i could have quite a big bet (by my usual G.A.A standards). I’m starting with 50 which i’ve just placed but may add more over the weekend. If i do i’ll post before the off.
In the other games i fancy Tyrone to beat Down and could do so comfortably but with some of their defending last week i won’t be backing. The Derry v Donegal game could be very tight and i wouldn’t be surprised no matter what the outcome.
Galway -5 €50 even money
-€60
June 7, 2014 at 19:49 #481579Well Galway laughed at London.Easy money.
+€40
Last weekend was very difficult to pick out any bet so i stayed away. This weekend has a few tough calls too but a few that i think are fair prices so i will be having a treble.
The 3 teams that i have put in my bet are Cavan 11/10 Cork Even money and Kildare 2/7. Their may be better prices available but i placed my bet in shop earlier.
Cork i think could win by any score in the replay tomorrow,Waterford had everything happen for them the 1st day and Cork were quite frankly a disgrace with the lack of respect they showed them. Cork only played for about 15 minutes that day and still got out with the draw so if the heads are right tomorrow they’ll won comfy i think.
In the Cavan game i think they’re a good price, they beat Armagh last year in the 1st round of the Championship and have progressed ever since and won Promotion from divison 3 whereas Armagh are going the other direction and got relegated from Division 2,Killian Clark was 1 of Cavans best players last year and is away for the summer so will be a blow but Gearoid Mc Kiernan who missed last season with a bad injury is back in and has the ability to become one of the best midfielders in the country. The game is in Armagh so i presume that is why they’re slight favourites but to be honest i think Cavan should be about 4/6.
Kildare will beat Louth barring a minor Miracle they’re simply far superior to me. They had a disappointing enough division 1 campaign resulting in them getting relegated but that doesn’t tell the whole story, they were very unlucky in a few games most notably the Tyrone match where they were absolutely mugged in the last few minutes and were missing key players like Emmet Bolton and Eoin Doyle for much of the league. Up front Tomas o connor and Paddy brophy are 2 very dangerous forwards and could cause a lot of damage. Louth were relegated from Division 2 but got a morale booster by beating Westmeath but to honest i think that Westmeath side is very poor.
€20 treble Kildare,Cavan,Cork -4
+€20In the other games i was going to put Roscommon in with the handicap expecting about 6 points but it was only 4 so i left it alone. Dublin should beat Laois with a bit to spare but with 12 points the spread i’m not taking part.
June 15, 2014 at 08:48 #482436Disappointing week last week, was at the Cavan game and very surprised how poor they were.
This week i think Tyrone will beat Monaghan despite if what i’m hearing is true Mc Manus will start. Monaghan can never beat Tyrone and i don’t see this game being any different,Monaghan looked very good in the league final but i’ve watched them a few times this year and haven’t been overly impressed with them and i’ve heard from a pair of lads in the panel that the mood isn’t exactly 1 of a side that just won a league and are defending Ulster champions.
The other team i like the look of Today are Carlow +11 against Meath. Meath are a very hit and miss side so i couldn’t touch them at -11 and with the game down in Carlow and it being 1st round of the Championship and Meath missing a good few men i think 11 points is generous even though Carlow are a poor side.
Tyrone 8/11 Carlow +11 6/5 €20
Back to even money again
June 15, 2014 at 16:51 #482498Awful
July 20, 2014 at 11:23 #486002Donegal at 6/5 today i think is a must bet. The Juggernaut is back in gear and this Monaghan side is overhyped and i’ll be very surprised if they don’t concede a few goals today ad get beat.
Donegal 6/5 €50
-€50
September 1, 2014 at 12:51 #489595Massive shock in the football yesterday as Donegal beat 1/10 shots Dubs in the semi to set up a final with Kerry
As usual I’ll be in Kerry for the final so will be shouting the Kerrymen on
September 2, 2014 at 19:19 #489668Faith in football restored after two cracking contests at the weekend. Some of the points kicked by Dublin in the opening exchanges against Donegal were spectacular, Donegal did well to maintain their composure and stick to their plan when they fell behind. I thought Mayo were hard done by against Kerry, referee gave the Kingdom a number of soft frees.
