I agree with your analysis Drone but for the trainer or owner with a real Jersey hopeful, it’ll be very tempting with a horse of that ilk to take a shot at a Group 1 with a likely high-value consolation if placed rather than take your chance in what is usually a very competitive Group 3.
All quite feasible Cormack and points taken but may I add that viscerally I personally am not particularly concerned with any possible weakening of the Jersey Stakes; a good, competitive race it is but by the standards of the Royal Meeting something of an also-ran being ‘only’ a Group 3 run over a somewhat esoteric trip
I should too emphasise that I’m generally very much against mucking around with the established Pattern cf. numerous posts passim concerning the ballsed-up Autumn schedule but this initiative does seem fairly reasonable – "vaguely appealing" as I put it earlier
