This has the makings of a very good race, with classy entries from France, Ireland, New Zealand and Germany taking on the home based horses. There’s also a nice mix of 3 & 4yos to create even more interest. From the classic generation, the second, third, fourth & fifth from the English 2000gns could meet again.
My first thought was to find the James Fanshawe runner, as he does seem to have a liking for this race and meeting. There is one, the 3yo Spacious (2nd in the 2000gns & 4th in the Coronation at Ascot). I’m not sure if it’s as simple as that though! There’s some very good horses entered in this race. Imo, the 4yo Darjina would probably have the most class (her Queen Anne run looks even better after Mount Nelson won the Eclipse yesterday). J.Bolger has two entered in Finsceal Beo and Saoirse Abu, both of whom have solid G1 form. Then there’s Seachange, a 6yo from New Zealand, who have G1 form at home and performed really well in a couple of group races in Dubai. Also entered are Heaven Sent, Nahoodh, Infallible, Majestic Roi, Lady Gloria, all of whom would not look out of place in this race.
Any ideas ?
July 6, 2008 at 09:38 #171941I’m starting to doubt Darjina – this after having piled and piled together copious amounts of money to stake on her in the Hong Kong Mile, the Dubai Duty Free and then the Queen Anne.
I worry if she has the winning attitude anymore. It’s a ridiculous suggestion, but the latter two races I have mentioned, she headed both fields with about 1-2 furlongs remaining before being tackled late by Jay Peg and Haradasun.
I will probably back her again – but will want some price, which I don’t expect.

July 6, 2008 at 10:07 #171946had a good bet on darjina at ascot gutted when she did not get her head in front dont think shes lost winning ways fraction easier ground at newmarket would be good fingers crossed
July 6, 2008 at 22:31 #172030I think that Seachange will prove her class soon.
This may be the race in which she does it.July 7, 2008 at 09:39 #172057She improves lengths when facing her own sex.
July 7, 2008 at 12:35 #172085I’m still reeling fom her defeat in the English Guineas, but I think NAHOODH could run a big race.
She’s a far better horse on a straight course (her seasonal debut defeat at Newbury had valid excuses) and it could all depend on Mark Johnson’s tactical approach. Most of us expected her to make the running at Royal Ascot, but I’m not too sure it played to her strengths. She has fantastic speed, as demonstrated in last years Lowther where she beat sprinting queen Fleeting Spirit, and I just feel she needs to be covered up in her races.
Of course, there’s no guaranteed pace in the race. Lady Gloria made all in the Princess Elizabeth at Epsom last time out and the previous two runnings of the Falmouth have been won by astute tatical rides.
Should be interesting…

July 7, 2008 at 13:18 #172092Yes DJ, I reckon another 2 or 3 quick runs and she’ll be back to her best

Carv
Come the Sun, and she might recuperate well enough to win on Wednesday!
July 7, 2008 at 14:42 #172106Darjina has the best form here and I can’t see beyond her, providing the ground isn’t soft. 9/4 is a real play, imo, with Infallible for the forecast.
July 7, 2008 at 21:35 #172161Darjina not a certain runner apparently as her intended ferry could not sail today due to the poor weather – Heaven Sent for me.

I think that lightly raced Infalible has a massive chance here, Gosden hasn’t rushed this horse and has been very selective in what this Filly runs in giving her time to progress and at 4-1 she is a very big danger of taking the Falmouth. Another one im intrested in is Darjina, she should run her race but i dont want to be betting on a 2-1 shot in such a race.
July 8, 2008 at 11:27 #172237Does Infallible stay a mile, especially on a stiff course like the July course?
July 8, 2008 at 11:34 #172238I guess it depends on your definition of ‘stays’ the form of the Guineas run and Coronation form is at least as good as what she achieved in the Nell Gwyn, so in that regard she stays. However she races as though she’ll be better at shorter, and with the Guineas and Coronation form not being good enough to win a Falmouth, I can’t see how a mile with a stiff finish will present her with the conditions to improve sufficiently to win.
July 8, 2008 at 11:41 #172242I’ve been trying to find something to beat Darjiina, but unless the Kiwi filly shows her form from the Antipodes or the German filly improves significantly, I’m struggling. It could be that Darjiina’s well-publicised travel problems allow us to back her at an inflated price- anything bigger than 5/2 would be decent value, IMHO, with perhaps a saver on Seachange just in case.
July 8, 2008 at 14:16 #172277Darjina’s trainer now says the change in the ground means he may prefer not to run her. She has won on GD so perhaps he fears GS ground which she has been beaten on twice. Hope she runs and Infallible looks the danger as she whould appreciate more give.
