I always find it one of lifes peculularities that you can watch what you want on TV, like whichever movies you like, read whatever books you like, without fear of judgement. But for reading the ‘wrong’ newspaper, people would cast your soul to Hades!!
It doesn’t matter what I read at work, I can guarantee someone will tut at me, and roll their eyes / shake their head in utter disgust!

November 29, 2021 at 22:06 #1569938“Pretty poor article from Charlie Brooks in the Telegraph alleging that Bryony does have an issue with drifting across other horses approaching fences”
I believe that’s a widespread practice tbh, Patriot; most jockeys do it and not just approaching fences. I’d say mainly afterwards. When there’s a valuable race most jockeys allow their horse to drift across in order to impede their main rival just to be sure (or as sure as possible) their horse wins. eg Making a 70% chance of victory a 90% chance. Stewards won’t know if it is intentional and therefore can only work on whether the leader was going to be the probable (better than 50%) winner.

November 30, 2021 at 17:56 #1570006Pretty poor article from Charlie Brooks in the Telegraph…maintaining that discipline of young jockeys should occur in the changing rooms
What a very surprising stance for an old Etonian to adopt.
November 30, 2021 at 18:35 #1570009Just announced on SSR that Dunne has accepted the charge he verbally abused Frost at Southwell. He is looking at a 21 day ban.
If the other charges are considered proven, he is looking at a three year ban.
November 30, 2021 at 19:17 #1570014You don’t need a crystal ball to predict that – whatever the final ruling from the disciplinary panel – this is not going to end well for Robbie Dunne.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"November 30, 2021 at 21:05 #1570023Tip of the iceberg – this will likely spill over into shinning more of a light on the self policing aspect in the weighing room and in this day and age that type of action is not going to be looked upon as anything but unacceptable.
Expect racing to hit some of the front page headlines in the coming weeks and once again for all the wrong reason especially considering it involves Bryony who has been one of the few exceptions where good/positive racing stories have managed to make it onto the front pages.
If half of what Dunne has said and done (pun not intended) is true, this has very little to do with a more experienced jockey taking a younger less experienced jockey and having a civilised conversation pointing out areas of do’s and dont’s (which I do think has its place in the weighing room if done respectfully).
Continued bullying and the use of reprehensible behaviour/language towards another professional on this level smacks at Dunne having much deeper issues that really require addressing before he ends up doing something he may not be able to come back from.
November 30, 2021 at 21:37 #1570030I am very glad this has made it to a hearing rather than being dropped as the Professional Jockeys Association wanted. How a professional body that is meant to represent Frost’s interests as well as Dunne’s can take such a stance is utterly beyond me, while at the same time being not in the least surprising.

Hopefully, he’ll get a long ban and won’t return. Can’t stand bullies.
November 30, 2021 at 22:06 #1570039The whole thing is exposing an obviously still common, old fashioned trait amongst people involved in racing. Draconian attitudes towards intimidation, ageism, sexism, misogyny, probably racism too.
Fair play to Bryony for sticking up for herself in a sport which doesn’t seem too keen on such behaviour unless it involves swearing and fistycuffs.
November 30, 2021 at 22:44 #1570041It’s interesting to see that in the Tylicki v Gibbons case Pat Cosgrave stated whilst giving evidence today that after the accident occurred at Kempton he had tried to follow “the jockeys code of conduct”, “not get involved” and “stay neutral”
Therein lies the problem in the weighing room. The jockeys “code of conduct” takes precedence over doing the right thing.
December 1, 2021 at 09:25 #1570064I could not believe what I read yesterday to be honest.
Calling her a whore, a **** and a slut, what sort of “man” talks to women like that?
Forgetting that cretin Dunne for a moment as well, many of the other jockeys need to have a long look at themselves for not stepping in.
December 1, 2021 at 09:45 #1570066I can very much see the need to “educate” younger inexperienced jockeys on a few things you can and cant do when race riding
It’s extremely dangerous and jockeys cant do certain things
But this is very clearly not the way to go about it
Guy comes across as a bit of a lunatic tbh
December 1, 2021 at 19:42 #1570142This whole case is not a good reflection of so called weighing room banter. Its a throwback when wee guys got were slagged relentlessly or if you were a ginger a lifetime of abuse. This goes beyond this and a lot of jockeys should reflect on how they have let the sport and most importantly bryony frost down. From what I remember of her dad he didn’t suffer fools but it seems the need to keep quiet to get on prevailed.
It’s quite clear there was and is a lot of jealousy towards frosts success and I’m surprised so many female riders have kept quiet but of course breaking the code of silence is never easy. Paul Nicholls I don’t think has shone in this where he never,in public anyway, been seen to support his jockey. I hope no jockey has to suffer what she suffered and we end this changing room club and call out those dishing out abuse. A shocking reflection on racing.December 1, 2021 at 19:56 #1570146December 1, 2021 at 20:05 #1570148Other jockeys – more experienced or otherwise – are fellow COMPETITORS and it is not for them to “educate” younger jockeys.
Any claimer, if a senior jockey had a go at them, would be perfectly entitled to respond: “Are you a Steward? No. Did the Stewards have an issue with me after that race? No. So you take your ‘advice’ and **** right off out of my face, you bullying ****.”
That’s my take on it, anyway.
Football players don’t referee the opposition, do they?

I would imagine Frost will have further harmed her popularity with her female colleagues as she is saying they have not been fully open in order to protect themselves, which does not paint them in a good light, however understandable it may be.
