Doesn`t look an overly exciting day but theirs always the opportunity to keep our eye in!!
NEWBURY
2.05 BACKBORD (14-1 General) Competitive h`cap where theirs plenty with a chance,i consider BACKBORD to be an improving hurdler with what amounts to a feather weight (if you take into account his riders claim),this horse ran a fantastic race in Punchestown (form working out well) when last seen out , Lucy Wadham as her string in good form and an inexperienced apprentice doesn`t really concern me around this flat galloping track(in fact the 10lb claim really appeals),todays trip should be right down his street and the going isn`t a problem, sure their are others but the 14`s is a real carrot!
2.35 SILVERBURN (7-4 Sportingbet), A real chasing type who should come into his own now faced with fences, Newbury is a great track for introductions to this sphere, whilst the fences are fairly stiff horses get a clear view of what needs jumping, add to that the flat contors of the track and the inviting nature of the fences, my only concern with this horse , he never won by far, maybe he doesnt do a lot in front, HOBBS HILL will set a decent standard and despite penalty i prefer him to the rest,PAPINI doesnt do a lot for me and ex flat horses like AIR FORCE ONE rarely come upto expectations, this one is well hyped but like in poker you eventually need to put your cards on the table.
3.10 LORD BROCK (9-2) lightly raced 8-y-o who doesn`t take much getting ready, stable is in form and their should be more to come from what looks a lenient h`cap mark of 112.
ENGHIEN
3.15 MAJADAL is a good horse to be appearing in a claimer, he`s clearly a better chaser than hurdler so optimism can be gained from his two solid runs this year, whilst he would prefer further i think the going should be “holding“ enough to make this a real test, his 4kg claiming jockey is decent so no worries on that score.
4.15 PRALIN didn`t set the world alight when trying to run out on his hurdling debut, both he and the jockey finishing on the floor, however,he looks like an hurdler so following some subsequent runs on the flat where he managed to win an h`cap off 35 i now expect him to leave that introduction behind, as always in France you need to take into consideration the price, i would expect 10 times your money so he certainly looks value in this slightly easier grade.
I realise France doesnt interest many, all the same it might help a few of you out!
