Yo-Ho-Ho …

Yes, even in the mean old world of systems, Christmas comes once a year. I thought it would be nice to share a system or two with my fellow forumites as a gesture of good will. Although Christmas won’t be so much fun for us, as I will be mainly studying the form, n’that.

Right then, the system …
This one has been punted around for years, going by the name of The Australian Dream, or American Dream racing system. I don’t remember the exact rules but these will be close enough and I’m going to re-name it;Dave’s Dream Christmas Special Horse Racing System
Rules.
1. Use any daily newspaper.
2. Locate the four races with the shortest forecast price favourites, if there are more than 4 note them all down.
3. Go to the first race and allocate points as follows;
Convert the FSP into a percentage;
a/b = (b) / (a+b), so,
2/1 = 1 / (2+1) = 1 / 3 = .33
5/4 = 4 / 9 = .44
8/13 = 13 / 21 = .62
and then multiply this number by 100.
This is the first rating.We then adjust that rating as follows;
4. No of runners
7 or less = +5
8 to 10 inclusive = 0
More than 10 = -55. Race Type
HCP = -5
Seller/Maiden/NHF = 0
None of the above = +56. Last time out winners
Forecast Fav was a winner = +10
None of the runner were = 0
Any other runner was a winner = -57. Distance winner
F-Fav is a distance winner = +2
Not a distance winner = -28. Beaten favourite
F-Fav is a beaten favourite = +5
Not a beaten favourite = 09. The horse with the highest score is the selection, if joint top have £2 on each.
I would readily concede that the title might be the best part but I’ve seen this system for sale, on e-bay. Does anyne else have a system they would lik eto donate for the common good .. only one rule the title must include the word Christmas.
December 4, 2007 at 18:06 #128791“Yo Ho Ho” and a bottle of rum, so that’s your Christmas then!
I don’t usually join in with this kind of thing at any season of the year and as for Christmas I am your solid Bah Humbug type, with no redeeming features.
However…..having had this item from my system-attic helping to litter my desk top for longer than I can remember, and just about to consign it to the waste bin; against my better judgement, I have decided to post it. This should in no way be construed as a weakening of my stance regarding seasonal goodwill but pure selfishness in the hope that somebody may come back with an improved variation to share with us, me in particular. You will see from the trainers mentioned that it is definitely something from Christmas past.
Apart from the title I have quoted verbatim from a letter to the SCHB forum of many years ago:
Christmas Crackers (you may be if you follow this)
“Here is what I believe to be the only way to make the system of horses running within seven days pay and it should certainly provide ample food for thought for anyone wishing to go into it. All horses which were placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th last time out and are running again within seven days are picked out and the only ones then deleted are those which were 3rd or 4th in fields of fewer than eight runners.
Make a list of all trainers and when a horse selected runs stake one point against the horse’s trainer’s name. Increase stakes by one point until a winner turns up. If a profit is shown return to one point. If still a loss halve the losing balance, add one point for the next stake.
e.g. P Cazalet
L, L, 7/2
1, 2, 3. Profit 7 1/2 points
e.g. Winter
L, L, L, 1/2, L, L, 5/1
1, 2, 3, 4, 3, 4, 5. Profit 14 pointsThis staking has shown over 1,000 points profit in a season: the bank never needed more than 50 points.
It is imperative that after selecting the horses they are only backed according to the staking progression of the trainer to whom they belong.
Of course it requires keeping records of every trainer, but I believe this should prove worthwhile. At the same time there is no difficulty if two or even three horses run in the same race, as they are all backed according to the stakes as above.”

December 6, 2007 at 09:26 #129074Hi Dave.In the true spirit of the season I decided to bring this little offering to the party.
1. Use Daily Mail
2. Non-Handicap hurdle races of five to eighteen runners inclusive.
3. Must be the selection of Robin Goodfellow,Gimcrack,Formcast.
4. Forecast price must be 4/5 or over.
5. Must have raced in current season.
6. Must not have refused,pulled up,fell or ran out in its last race.
7. Operate from December 1st to end of March.Only one selection today. Pop,1.20 Market Rasen.
Back in 1983/84 there were 28 winners from 33 selections. Longest winning run was 11, LLR was 2. But obviously very short SPs.
Regards, Dave.(goodlife)

If we get ten, I reckon that’s a full stocking.
December 6, 2007 at 10:48 #129096I should have said that the selection must be forecast favourite at odds of 4/5 or above.
