You are correct about De Souza Ginger, he has not yet had the opportunity at the highest level but he’s been brilliant in the lower grade races. Given the rides there’s no reason to suggest he won’t go far.
If I ran Ballydoyle I’d do my level best to get Pat Smullen on the team. He’s happy with Dermot Weld but if they haven’t done everything in their power to get him on board then imo they should.
April 2, 2012 at 20:31 #399168I wonder how many people would have stated they disliked a young Lester Piggot had forums been the thing in his early years.
Mikael Barzalona is an awesome talent even if he appears to be as crazy as a loon. Pretty obvious Frankie is the influence behind his antics and that sort of behavior never did Muhammad Ali any harm in boosting his popularity.
He reminds me in many ways of TAPK in his early years

As far as either riding for Ballydoyle goes I can’t even imagine it without them calming their knickers.
Those Arabs seem to love every minute of it, antics and all and were right into the hoopla. They really let go with the hugs, kissing and wild celebrations..I think Frankie and Mikael fit in well where they are and wild horse wouldn’t drag them away.
April 2, 2012 at 21:32 #399182Can’t see Frankie at Ballydoyle, although would be interesting for a while.
As for the respective jockey teams, would sooner have Godolphin’s in terms of talent, but unless they can start entering two top horses in G1 regularly there may be discontent, but perhaps Frankie is going to ease off further over the coming couple of years.
That said rate Joseph highly, Seamus and Colm are both good jockeys but with styles that suit Ballydoyle rather than being true potential number 1’s. Suspect that Ryan Moore has his set of Ballydoyle horses for the year and while he may not have had a great 2011 still could potentially outshine them all. At which point does he get a Ruby Walsh-type arrangement and start choosing whichever horse he thinks is best between the O’Brien and Stoute yards?
April 2, 2012 at 23:17 #399189I’d argue that the Ballydoyle jockeys are as good as Godolphins. As good as Detorri and De Souza are, Ballydoyle have two to match in Seamie Heffernan and Colm O’Donoghue imo. What makes Barzalona so much better than the egotistical young O’Brien?

I like Colm and Seamie, but Jonny Murtagh is different class, and they were treated in the pecking order accordingly. But egotistical Joseph, is this serious? I don’t particularly rate him on the steering jobs, but ego, I don’t think so, he seems a very level headed, based young man. Hardly his fault if his dad puts him up on such horses, how and why would you say no?
And on another point in here, Mikael is already there. He has won a Derby and Dubai World Cup at 21. People who call him cocky have forgotten that in sport, ego is good, it drives you. Wake up.
April 2, 2012 at 23:25 #399190It is not serious JJM, it was in response to andyod’s post where he said Joseph’s head was full of notions of being a wonderful jockey.
Imo he gets on with his business without fuss, if he does have an ego he keeps it well hidden!
April 3, 2012 at 00:17 #399192All I know is what I hear from Aidan about how good or not Joseph is.If anyone is filling his head it is not me.I am subject to correctrion in this but after the BC I believe his father referred to his ride as brilliant etc.Now I realize that he says that after every Ballydoyle win so he may be debasing the currency.Few but his father would stand bye and let Johanny leave so that the divinely appointed order could be restored.
