Sir Prancealot 14/1Seems a very big price. Anybody have numbers for how many each have in training? I’d be having a bet if i knew Frankels crop were similar in numbers to the others or not far behind.
March 21, 2016 at 15:35 #1239237Nathan, following your navigation instructions to reach that page this is what you get:
Bated Breath 7/2
Harbour Watch 7/2
Casamento 5/1
Frankel 5/1
Power 9/1
Sepoy 10/1
Sir Prancelot 10/1
Excelebration 12/1http://www.paddypower.com/racing/horse-racing-specials/uk-flat-season-specials
The relevant Oddschecker page shows prices offered by PP and Racebets. The prices given in your OP are a best price pick from both companies.
If I’m wrong then it’s because of an inability to think straight due to a monster of a cold.
March 21, 2016 at 15:41 #1239238That is correct Seasider, I’ve put up best prices available at this current moment in time.
Racebets and Paddy only two offering at the minute.Fran, I’m not sure on the numbers but think he covered about 2 million mares over the winter….

March 21, 2016 at 18:35 #1239282Not great value at 5/1.
With the sort of mares Frankel got in his first season, I’d be surprised if he got a large number of 2-y-o winners.
Harbour Watch looks the most likely candidate to me.
March 21, 2016 at 20:45 #1239304Since the market is “Wins” not “Prize Money”, Frankel’s 5/1 looks very skinny. I think his stud-mate Bated Breath looks the best value there.
The yearling market thought Bated Breath produced better offspring than Harbour Watch. In Tatts Book 1 BB had all three sell for 160,000 200,000 and 230,000 gns, while HW had both his sell for 45,000 and 110,000gns. Probably more tellingly in Tatts Book 2, BB had 19 sell between 15,000 and 120,000 while HW had 27 sell between 6,000 and 75,000 gns. On average BB’s yearlings fetched 27% more than HW’s. When those yearlings were conceived BB’s fee was £8,000 and HW’s was £7,500. After two years, after the first foals were mature enough to be judged, BB’s fee went up 25% while HW’s has stayed where it started. Sufficient grounds for optimism at leat about Bated Breath’s chance.
However, it is easy to see why people would favour HW over BB in this market. HW was a very good summer two-year-old who won all three races that he ever ran in, all over six furlongs, and looks a lithe and athletic mature horse. BB never ran as a two-year-old, but did win his first three races as a three-year-old, all over six furlongs, but he is a bigger, stronger type than HW as a mature horse. If I was to have a fun punt on this, it would be on the basis that BB once beat Sole Power over five furlongs on firm going at level weights, so I would just hope he could pass on some of that speed to his two-year-old crop.
March 21, 2016 at 21:36 #1239310All depends on what type of mares are sent to each horse. Power looks to me to be the best bet as he is likely to be sent milers and 10f mares and he was an explosive 2yo.

Is it not too big a handicap that he has forty fewer two-year-olds than Harbour Watch to represent him this year?
March 22, 2016 at 20:57 #1239430I see no reason to think why Frankel won’t be able to produce plenty of 2 year old winners. He was a champion 2 year old after all and a lot of the mares he was sent were speedy or bred to be speedy. I personally wouldn’t back him to have the most winners in terms of numbers as I think one or two on the list will have more runners and the runners will run more times (if that makes sense!) One bookie is offering 3-1 that Frankel will produce a Royal Ascot winner – that might be a better bet……….

March 22, 2016 at 21:44 #1239434I think the 3/1 on Frankel having a Royal Ascot winner is the worst bet there. You need a really early type for that – and Frankel was a mid-backend juvenile. Wesley Ward will probably cover at least one or two of the races with his juiced-up monsters and proven two-year-old sires like Zebedee and Kodiac will have strong contenders.
More than half of Frankel’s first batch of mares were best at 1m 2f+, so you’ve got to suspect many will be saved for the backend or debut at 3.
You must have some reservations on his speedier progeny too. Sir Henry Cecil was quite open in saying that Frankel was a complete psychopath in his first few months at Warren Place – aggressive, impossible to steer, more of a wild animal than a racehorse. Less gifted trainers than Sir Henry (i.e. everyone) could have a tough time nurturing their Frankels if they come out as fiery as the sire.
Harbour Watch looks like a great bet at 7/2 to me. I’ve just had a lump on that. He was the one of the sharpest juveniles on the list, has the most runners on the ground and will be supported very well by two-year-old guru Richard Hannon.
Casamento is likely to be more of a slow-burner, even more so Bated Breath. He was quite a tall, rangy horse for a sprinter and his stock will probably need time to grow into their frames. I understand Coolmore have retained more by Excelebration than Power, which might give a hint of who they rate to be the better prospect. Excelebration was quite sharp (June 2yo 6f winner despite being an April foal), but I presume Ballydoyle have the cream of his first crop and other Irish trainers will account for quite of a few of them.
Sir Prancelot looks a smidge overpriced at 14s too. Richard Hannon will have plenty of his first crop. SP was a very sharp type – debuted in May and won twice before unlucky fourth in the Coventry, then held form/improved to win the Flying Childers at the end of the year. His lesser numbers and Irish stud base temper the enthusiasm though.
March 24, 2016 at 07:36 #1239590Excellent post ^ ^ ^ You are probably right. The Frankel’s will generally take a bit more time and they may well be hard to handle. I suppose just looking at the list of trainers and some of the mares would give one hope that he might be able to produce some good early season sorts; the Lightening Pearl colt trained by Ger Lyons, the Lady of the Desert filly and Queen’s Logic colt with Richard Fahey and the Swiss Lake colt with David Elsworth are just a few examples. Will be fascinating anyway.
