Anyone noticed there`s one in the foxhunters tomorrow in the Eliogarty colours .
Brings back memories ,he gave Carolin Beasley/Robinson some good rides such a pity Donal Hassett gave him such a woeful ride when he ran in the National itself.April 2, 2009 at 02:55 #219612Eliogarty ran in the colours of Caroline Beasley (later Robinson) and Whistling Straits is trained by her, carrying the colours of her late father, who of course won the Grand National himself as a jockey on Nicolaus Silver.
It’s a bit harsh to crab Donal Hassett for his ride on Eliogarty in the Grand National; the horse had shown himself to be a moderate jumper and made at least six errors of note in the race before fading to finish well behind. He was actually able to lead extremely briefly at Becher’s on the second circuit but made mistakes at two of the next three to throw his chance away; it’s telling that Timeform made a note in their annual that his jockey did well to complete at all.
