I put up our initial line today.
I would dearly like to hear an update on the brilliant Staker Wallace, who will carry all before him in this division sooner or later. Maybe he needs more time and he still has work to do to get qualified, but if he gets to Cheltenham, I think he’ll start fav.
Too many people say ‘bet to nothing’ to justify a bad bet but 365’s NRMB 14/1 really is that kind of opportunity. Very good value in context.
January 19, 2018 at 00:21 #1337978I’m on Burning Ambition at 10/1.
Think he’s the future star of this entire decision. The fact he is an up and comer rather than a horse who’s seen his best days is a positive to me and I think he will prove to be superior to a field of hunter chasers.
As hunter chasing goes, he looks a bit of a monster tbh.
January 19, 2018 at 11:16 #1338010Gilgamboa looks to be the one for me. However horses like him and foxrock shouldn’t be allowed to compete in hunter chases
January 20, 2018 at 21:05 #1338360Gilgamboa is ineligible for the Cheltenham Foxy on a technicality. Get your money back if anyone has him priced, Wexford Man.
That Burning Ambition does look like a smart young hunter – totally laughed at some half useful open PTP winners last time. Plenty of good judges think he’d be a 140 horse under rules. It’ll be interesting to see how he fares against some established hunters.
There’s a good race in Ireland tomorrow – Gilgamboa v Foxrock in the last at Thurles.
January 20, 2018 at 21:27 #1338363Is Baby Run still in training?!
January 20, 2018 at 21:47 #1338368I’m on Wonderful Charm @ 12/1. Charge from the back last year to finish 2nd and huge amount of festival experience. Think he will go one better this year and win
January 21, 2018 at 11:06 #1338406I read something in a Racing book about Burning Ambition before he even ran this season and apparently he’s very well thought of by the experts in that division. He then has ran like he has and I thought I’d check the market to see how short he was. I genuinely expected 4/1 favourite. When he was 10/1, I had to place my first antepost bet of all time on on amateur riders race. I had said to myself after last year that wonderful charm will win but that 10/1 on Burning Ambition just looked huge.
As you say, that run last time was against some useful types and he destroyed them without being asked to do anything.
January 21, 2018 at 11:09 #1338407Is Baby Run still in training?!
Assuming you aren’t taking the piss and are about to whoosh me here, Baby Run retired in January 2014 aged 14!
January 21, 2018 at 20:08 #1338523Good news for fans of [everything else] with Foxrock spanked by Gilgamboa today. He should come on for the run but it’s good to see him looking vulnerable.
Burning Ambition into 6/1.
January 21, 2018 at 20:35 #1338531Yes I was being facetious sorry, he’s the only fox hunter I was ever interested in! Not a clue about the current crop, I’d probably be interested in whatever Derek O’Connor was riding…
January 22, 2018 at 08:24 #1338589Just get stuck in to Burning Ambition and you won’t go wrong.
Looking like becoming one of my biggest bets of the festival even at this stage.
February 14, 2018 at 04:41 #1342125Lovely prep from Burning Ambition the other day. Close second to gilgamboa with the latter not being eligible for Cheltenham.
February 14, 2018 at 09:48 #1342148Nice enough prep, found zero off the bridle would be the worry.
I presume he will be produced later at the festival. A lot of pressure on an inexperienced jockeys shoulders.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!February 14, 2018 at 10:27 #1342154Connections believe the likely better ground will help him to change gears more affectively apparently. It seemed to take him too long to go from cruising to sprinting the other day.
He was beaten by the horse who, if able to run at Cheltenham, would be the deserved favourite. Gilgamboas absence helps my fellas chance out big time imo.
February 14, 2018 at 10:29 #1342155I’d say that was bubble burst for Burning Ambition somewhat. No shame in losing to Gilgamboa of course but was worryingly outstayed. A very smart hunter but looks unlikely to be a standout performer in the division.
You’d have to prefer Foxrock now (why is he a bigger price than Burning Ambition?) who shaped really well when half-fit behind Gilgamboa.
Looking bleak for Staker Wallace making it to Cheltenham at this point but we’ve added in Morning Assembly, who is now qualified.
February 14, 2018 at 10:42 #1342156Burning Ambition was always going to be overrated, i believe he was tipped up by a certain somebody, early doors…
He still has a chance of course, but that price on him now is horrific. The race is full of unknowns and considering what we saw on sunday, he will need a canny ride. Rob James isn’t certain to deliver on that for me!
Foxrock can take a few runs to get going, so i can see your point LS!

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!February 14, 2018 at 11:15 #1342161Foxrock hates the travelling, two times he’s been over he’s been sick as a dog not eating up etc. That’d be a massive worry for me, as well as quicker ground.
Burning Ambition has a really good chance but he’s going to go off far too short for this.
