Having no luck what so ever on these lately!! Had Arsenal to win as my last selection over the weekend (£250 for a £4 stake so you could say I was being greedy!!!) But this is often the way, I add one more in… then another to look at the tasty return. Gonna try one more acca tomorrow during the Carling Cup, just to add some interset you understand cos I know betting on these early rounds is betting suicide! So, anyone one got a suggestion for tomorrow?? Iv’e given up thinking for myself on these.
October 30, 2007 at 18:18 #122335Did you lay Arsenal not to win on BF in order to guarantee a profit?
I concentrate on laying teams not to win in soccer so don’t do accas much. Problem with the CC is that it is a bit difficult to know which teams are taking it seriously but good luck with whatever you do…….surely Tottenham will win
October 30, 2007 at 19:12 #122340SW I didn’t lay them as was round at my Dad’s for lunch. We had all consumed alot of red wine and he made some comment to me when I suggested it like"He who dares wins, my son" This was as the free kick went in..What a plonker!
October 31, 2007 at 10:31 #122407Yes, Accumulators can be very frustrating Crizzy. One team let me down the last 2 weekends so I know where you are coming from.
As SC has said, the CC is a betting nightmare so I wouldn’t get too involved with these matches. I will be having a score on Blackpool to win tonight at 12.5 on BF. Not that I fancy Blackpool, it’s just that I think the should be way shorter as they are only a division lower and as we know, Spurs are in terrible form at the moment. No doubt Spurs will win 3 or 4 nil now
.As for Accumulators, just keep reading Zilzal’s thread at the weekend, between me and him we normally get quite a few selections right, the hard bit is getting the right ones

And also, not trying to plug myself here, but have a click on my betting.betfair link which will take you straight to the football section. There are some knowledgable people on there (me excluded
), including Gary Speed, David Croft from the BBC, Dan Fitch etc, and we try and highlight some value bets, not just for the weekend, but for the upcoming months.Good luck mate,
Mike
October 31, 2007 at 13:24 #122444I wouldn’t get too carried away with Blackpool, they are struggling in the league, have a few injuries and their manager has been linked with the vacant Leceister job.
October 31, 2007 at 15:36 #122461I know exactly where you’re coming from Crizzy, and, if it’s any help, I gave an awful lot of thought to this dilemma some years ago – well before Betfair – when you had to have a minimum of 3 selections with the bookies if there was no home selcetion or a minimum 5 timer if a home was included. (Seems like the dark ages now).
I used to go to lower division football matches (including the odd jock game) every week and at the time felt I was a better judge of these teams than some of the odds-compilers who, it seemed to me, just looked at league tables before calculating the odds for the games ( in the then Divs 3 & 4) – unaware of suspensions, injuries, new signings etc.
I made a regular profit by making my main bet the MINIMUM number of selections (ie 3 or 5 depending on if home win included) – but my stake on this "banker" list was substantial. It was still nice though to dream of a multiple selection accumulator raking up massive odds and so I used to do one such bet each week to a much smaller stake. If your main bet gets stuffed then so does your acca (but that’s only to a small stake); if your main bet comes up but something else lets your acc. down then you’re still in profit.
Think about when you go racing, would you just have a 6 horse accumulator? No. Would you put more money on you’re strongest fancies than on those you just had a "hunch" for? Probably. So do the same with footy – put you’re big betting boots on for those you strongly fancy and just have a fun bet on the multi-selection, big odds acca.
At the risk of boring you even further I had a specific staking plan. I would always back each line on a "banker" footy bet to return a set amount (say £200). So, if I only really fancied 2 teams away from home and had a hunch another away team should at least get a draw – remember you needed three selections in days gone by – I stake one line of three aways to return £200 and another line of the two banker aways with the draw in the third game to return £200 also.
I did once get a 12 timer up on the fixed odds (still keep a copy of the coupon for nostalgia) paid over 1,200 to one. Only had £3 on it though.
Sorry if I’ve gone on a bit, good luck however you bet.October 31, 2007 at 16:21 #122470Some sound advice there Insomniac.
Just to put 2 parts of your post together a little, I remember the days when you had to select a minimum of 3 teams. So in the dark winter months, when I really fancied one team, I would lump on them by putting them in a 3 team accumulator – only the other 2 teams would be Scottish games that had already been called off due to bad weather. That way, I would get my treble up (if my strong fancy won) by having a winner and 2 non runners

You always had to be one step ahead those days. However, the worrying thing is, that now I am allowed to back on just one team, I often find myself putting a strong fancy in with 3 or 4 others
. Weird how the brain works when you have so many options isn’t it

CrizzyNo worries mate,
I’m in the same boat as your regarding the beer – it always tastes nicer when the teams you back are winning. Let’s just say if Man City don’t beat Bolton my bets are down and I will be switching over to watch the National TV Awards while downing the rest of my Grolsch

October 31, 2007 at 19:19 #122502Mike, TV awards? sounds like a betting opportunity to me! How about big acca on best soap, best newcomer, sexiest soap star best comedy etc etc. Two hours of fun…???

It’s a live event so why not – except I can’t find any books on it lol. Even Paddy Power, who price up anything haven’t got any markets for it

Oh well, I will just have to ogle at the sexiest female, rather than lay her, I mean back her

Spot on there Mikky. Since being able to back in singles + being able to lay teams too, I’m swamped with options.
Nowadays, I tend to side with Swallow Cottage’s approach and prefer to lay teams – especially really short priced teams that are bet in running.
Next season I’m going to try what seems like a daft system. Any game that’s on live where the fav is 1.6 or less, lay the fav and back that side in running when (or if) the price drifts far enough out to guarantee a 10% profit whatever the outcome. Okay, sometimes you’ll come unstuck if the fav’s take an early lead (as in Arsenal’s Champions League win last week), but I’ve a hunch it might pay off in the long run. Trouble is, it’s so time consuming watching all the games and recording price moves etc.
What do you think?October 31, 2007 at 22:24 #122530Another acca down the pan. All up except Celtic!! Still the lager was good and the tv awards even better. Micky if there had been a book open, I would have cleaned up!!

Lol.
I did ok, had a treble on Man City, Blackburn and Arsenal – though I also had a 5 fold with the above 3, Rangers and Everton, so it was a bit gutting that Everton couldn’t beat Luton in normal time.
Yes TV Awards were ok, most of the fancied ones won so it’s just a shame there wasn’t a book on it really.
Insomniac,
A bit too drunk at the mo, so I will have a look at your strategy tomorrow and give you a reply.

October 31, 2007 at 23:33 #122537I like doing Lucky 15 correct score bets, no luck tonight but the results were good all the same

For the record I had
Rangers to win 2-0 – (won 2-1)
Hearts to win 2-1 – (won 2-0)
Aberdeen to win 2-1 – (won 4-1)
Dundee Utd to win 2-0 – (won 3-1)Close on a couple but no cigar.

How is your hangover Mike. Perhaps an appropriate winner today would be Hair of the Dog in the 1:00 at Newcastle
November 2, 2007 at 09:26 #122654Lol SC,
Had a rough day yesterday – and the golf didn’t do much to help me feel better, though you had to be impressed by Padraig’s fightback. I think at one stage he was 7 behind Rose (-3 to +4), so to finish just one behind him was incredible.
I’m hoping some of the players I backed (Hansen and Fasth) have a better day now they are out earlier in the day.
Speak soon
Mike
