If he stays fit, Fernando Torres is a certainty for the golden boot; whether he’s at Liverpool or not, 8/1 is a massive price.
I can’t even entertain the thought of Manchester United winning the Premiership with the likes of Giggs and Scholes another year older, and Roberto Mancini has proven time and time again that he can’t get eleven egos to work as a team. He’s going to have a hell of a job this time around.
Chelsea look well-placed to retain their league title, but even then there are doubts about Ashley Cole and injury worries for Didier Drogba and Petr Cech. I’ll likely have minor each-way interests in Liverpool (18/1) and Tottenham (40/1).
At this point in time I think the Premiership relegation market offers plenty of opportunities. Wigan could be about to lose Figueroa to Liverpool and there would appear to be plenty of interest in James McCarthy. I’m prepared to take a chance on the northerners going south at 9/4, along with Newcastle at 11/4, whose only ‘major’ signing this summer has been the nutcase that is Sol Campbell.
Golden Boot:
Fernando Torres (8/1)
To be relegated:
Wigan (9/4), Newcastle (11/4)
Premiership:
Liverpool (18/1 each-way), Tottenham (40/1 each-way)
First Premiership manager to go:
Roberto Mancini (7/1)

It would appear that Figueroa has completed his medical and will be announced as a Liverpool player in the next 24-48 hours; Fernando Torres will remain at the club for at least one more season; the deal to sign Luke Young has fallen through; Emiliano Insua won’t be moving to Fiorentina; and Mascherano will soon be re-united with Rafael Benitez in a deal involving either Muntari, Cambiasso or even Samuel Eto’o plus a cash lump sum.
We might not be 18/1 shots after all.
July 28, 2010 at 22:20 #309528Lambert top scorer in League One 5/1. If he stays injury free nothing will stop him not even my old mate Lee Hughes of Notts County although at 16’s he could be worth an each/way.

Insua is a good full back. Played well last season.
Still think Torres could go though, just got the feeling somethings going on, knowing me I’ve probably got it wrong but we’ll see.
July 29, 2010 at 07:50 #309565Liverpool 18/1 for the title
They shold be 33/1 shots in my honest opinion. I have them down as the 5th best team in the division but a full 15-18 points behind the likes of United and Chelsea – as they were (roughly) last season. I don’t see where they’ve improved and the loss of Mascherano is going to be a big one.Not trying to ruffle any feathers, it’s just my opinion. I think Chelsea will take the beating again with City, United and Arsenal (if they keep Fabregas, and keep Van Persie fit) all within six points come the end of the season.
In the Championship I just hope my team Scunthorpe can survive again. It’s going to be tough now that we’ve lost our best striker, Gary Hooper, to Celtic. As for the winner, I can’t see beyond the favourites Middlesbrough. Have you seen the quality in their squad? Scott McDonald and Kris Boyd should run riot in that division.
July 29, 2010 at 12:38 #309649Speculative 20/1 with VCbet for Liverpool to finish in bottom half of the table for me. Once Torres & Gerrard cry off injured again there will be no Benayoun to make them look half-decent in the middle. Incredible to think they are much the same price to win as they are to finish 11th or worse.
Can’t see Forest doing as well this year and I think they are worth laying for a Top6 spot. I feel they flattered to deceive a bit last year with their fantastic run of ~ 25 games unbeaten ensuring that they finished 3rd. They should really have gained automatic promotion though and fell away badly at the business end of the season. If Cardiff had won their last game Forest would only have finished 4th.
August 1, 2010 at 18:54 #310445I’ve done two speculative bets today…
I’ve done a small win acca on..
Chelsea, Middlesborough, Southampton and Luton at just over 160/1.
I’ve also done an e/w lucky 15 on..
Reading (12/1) Charlton (14/1) Stevenage (14/1) and York (12/) all 1/4 the odds a place 1,2,3,4…
Can’t wait for the season to get cracking as I usually do pretty well throughout the season backing trebles and fourfolds every week…

Well at least they won’t have the Champions League distraction
August 3, 2010 at 01:19 #310665Outrights
Arsenal 7/1
Reading 12/1
Southampton 9/4
Wycombe 10/14 trebles + an accumulator – around £42k in the unlikely event they all pop.
Top goalscorer markets
Chamakh – 25/1 Top Premier League Goalscorer 25/1 looks generous for a proven Champions league netfinder…Wenger has waited 18 months to sign this lad.
Hooper – 5/1 Top SPL goalscorer Celtic have paid £2.4M for Scunthorpe’s main man. 5/1 is a sensational price. There is no one at Celtic that will touch him and Miller at Rangers is more of an assist man. Sadly the SPL is not much of a step up on the Championship these days and Hooper bagged 30 in one of the more moderate teams in the league, with Celtic’s abundance of wide men he will not lack service, decent with both feet and a strong header of the ball. Nailed on
Double Chamakh and Hooper £10 – pays £1,560.August 3, 2010 at 07:11 #310679

At 6/4 on Betfair Rangers look the value
August 3, 2010 at 11:45 #310710I’ve taken Corals offer of 12/1 for Sunderland to be relegated – they’re as short as 7/1 with Ladbrokes.
Even if they don’t make the drop, I’d expect to be able to trade that bet at some point during the season.
They certainly have problems – goalkeeper broke his arm a few weeks ago and they have no suitable replacement, one central defender (Turner) is suspended for the first two games, the other (Ferdinand) went off with a hamstring injury in a friendly last week.
They were highly dependant on Bent for goals last season – he scored 24 of their 48 league goals and it must be odds against him repeating that total. When his goals dried up in mid season, Sunderland went 14 games without a win. They have an ageing and/or paceless midfield, Cattermole, Malbranque, Reid, Richardson etc.
And their big summer signing so far is Titus Bramble!
Corals prices suggest they are the 9th best team in the Premier League, although they only finished 15th last year. I’ll be very surprised if they get more than the 44pts they managed last season in a league that only has one lame duck (Blackpool) compared to the three that were relegated in May.

Pompete, for penance, where do you think I’ve been hanging out for the last week.
Not for me
– I just couldn’t get used to calling a little white ball, Jack !
Rangers have lost their goalscorer and talisman, Kris Boyd. Who will partner the headless chicken ( Kenny Miller )up front ? Who cares !
No, wee Lenny has brought a few decent players in and with even more money to spend on players when Aiden McGeady eventually takes the Tsar’s roubles, then it’s hard to imagine any team but Celtic coasting the league this time round.

August 4, 2010 at 00:07 #310839Was Lennon not the manager when Ross County knocked Celtic out of the Scottish Cup?
Thought so, can’t see how his inept managerial skills and poor signings can stop Rangers from making it 3 in a row.
