The figures should not matter to the BBC – a public service broadcaster with a guaranteed income from the licence fee.
Its main argument appears to be it will take up 5 to 7 minutes of a half hour programme. Which seems like a weak reason to stop doing something which has been part of its radio service for years.
If it’s a service that the public wants then Talk Sport’s figures will reflect that and it should be reinstated. I’d bet that neither station will notice any discernible difference.
Many people are creatures of habit and barely look beyond the traditional TV channels and radio stations.
The mainstream TV racing coverage is shared between ITV1 and ITV4. Now I suppose you would expect the broadcasts on ITV1 to attract a larger audience because it is for the more high profile meetings, whereas the ITV4 days are for lower key racing.
However, I expect a large part of the reason why the ITV4 viewing figures are lower is because a lot of viewers will not think about switching over to a channel they seldom if ever watch and may only be vaguely aware exists.
A lot of people who listen to BBC radio will not tune into Talksport.
Saw some of the BBC coverage of Final Score yesterday. Who really needs to know the Shots on target, corners and % possession of third tier games
Only those perhaps who have had a bet on one of the approx 200 markets for each match such as how many dives Harry Kane made.

That xG rubbish is even worse, it’s nonsense invented by statisticians to justify their own jobs. At least corners and shots are matters of fact. xG is based presumably based on formulas and algorithms which may or may not be correct.
I’m sure the stats are of some use to the teams themselves and maybe serious punters who have the time to analyse it but most people watching it are I’m sure interested in results only.
