As I have picked all the winners for the rest of the NH season, I thought I would turn my attention to the forthcoming flat racing and I have a couple of questions which I need help on
1. where is it possible to purchase the official formbook
2. where is it possible to see what horses are in training (I don’t want to analyse a horse and then discover it has been sent to stud or shipped to Italy or something)
Thanks in advance. No timewasters please. That means you Hoppy!
February 25, 2006 at 09:58 #68991I would imagine a trip to the raceform website is what you want. They do the official formbook. They also do a publication called Horses In Training which has almost all the yards full strings) a few notable exceptions including Godolphin who imo don’t want it in the public domain how many horses they have because we’ll see what a pigs ear they’ve made of it.

February 25, 2006 at 18:50 #68997Can’t wait for the proper racing to start!
DBrady – here is the only horses in training list you’ll need for the new flat season –
GEORGE WASHINGTON
February 25, 2006 at 18:54 #68999how many AP O’Brien horses have been hyped so much all they can do is fail?? if i was gonna follow any of his horses it would be aussie rules. Pegwell Bay cheers that’s a great site never knew it was there
February 25, 2006 at 22:19 #69001Why you would follow a very inconsistent, not very good 3yo 6f horse over a top miler, with fantastic breeding, has already won 2 group 1s by a few lengths and AP fav for the 2000 guineas absolutely baffles me.
AP had so many 2yos last year, he was basically playing the numbers game. Think of the good ones compared to the poor ones. We already know the good ones, but the poor ones.
Marcus Andronikus
Ivan Denisovich
Aussie Rules
Alexandrova (i know beaten only shd to Nannina, but Fallon blocked her in)
And there must be a load more than I can think of.
The Good Ones
George
Horatio
Chenchikova – being aimed at Oaks, and current 16s is ridiculous. This horse will win it.
Rumplestiltskin – Very unconvincing over 6 and 7f, but over a mile – I was stunned. Between her and Flashy Wings for the 1000.
Pescatorio – I know he hasn’t raced. But we all know how good he is already!!!
So why you would follow one of the worser 3yos over a distance that is extremely competetive is beyond me.
February 25, 2006 at 22:36 #69004firstly i never said follow anybody over george washington i just stated that sometimes these animals don’t turn out to be the super animals that we sometimes believe they are (one cool cat) and second you seem to know a lot about aussie rules a horse with a 50% strike rate that was never outside the top 4 and has only seen a race course for about 3 months. do you think O’Brien shows all his cards all the time cause you seem to know all his horses so well, maybe you could give him some advice about where and when to run. all that from somebody who talks about how good an unraced horse is! you must live for the ‘hype horse’

How do we know anything about him other than the fact that he hasn’t raced?
February 25, 2006 at 22:56 #69006The biggest price you’ll get about Chenchikova, jackane, now is a ridiculous 14/1 – I’d lay her at far bigger.
She beat nothing of any worth on debut (and wasn’t particularly impressive in my view) and her price, much like every other O’Brien trained Oaks possible, is based solely on the reputation of connections.
A full-sister to High Chaparral she may be, but that doesn’t justify her market position.
The only Magnier-Tabor horse I would give a chance to at the moment is Rumplestiltskin. I was at Longchamp when she beat Quiet Royal in the Marcel Boussac, and she looked every inch a ten-to-twelve furlong horse. She travelled strongly, and showed an electric turn of foot, but I fear she’ll be taken off her in the 1000 Guineas on the likely quick ground.
I’d be happy with some of the 16/1 available about her.
And as for Pescatorio – you can have any price you like with me.

February 26, 2006 at 01:33 #69007LGR, if you’re giving me 16s Chenchikova for the Oaks, i’m VERY happy to take it. Betfair giving 12s. How much you wanna take??? I would like to back her a score. Let me know. Thanx
p.s. Any chance you’re giving 16s for Horatio or George for the Derby and Guineas???
February 26, 2006 at 01:40 #69008Oh yeah, forgot to comment about Aussie Rules. Just so people know, i’m a big coolmore guy, so therefore not going to talk up ALL their horses, just the good ones. ;)
He’s extremely lazy, does nothing after he hits the front LITERALLY, running in quite poor Group races where potentially good 2-come-3yos where just pushed too early, has won and lost by VERY little, and this horse does not do enough or progress quickly enough to become anything special.
Pescatorio is good due to the fact that he is around 20s for the Guineas/Derby, hasn’t raced yet, stable has been giving very loud signals that he is good and i for one, like many others, cannot wait for his debut.
February 26, 2006 at 01:47 #69009I’d love to be involved in the classics discussions;)
Roll on March 23rd.
February 26, 2006 at 02:02 #69010Edit post quickly!!! March 25th – bloody Redcar….
February 26, 2006 at 02:49 #69011It’s not that she isn’t a fav for a classic (she is currently fav for Oaks ahead of Chench), but I am not at all convinced by her, and am worried that O’Brien told Fallon to block in Nannina to try and win the race in the Fillie’s Mile.
I have not been impressed by her anywhere near as much as George, Horatio or Rumple. Maybe she needs further to show her stuff, which wouldn’t suprise me being by Sadler’s W, and becoming more successful as she has stepped up in trip, but I feel Chench being lightly raced with the fantastic pedigree is a little sign that she is a better horse and they don’t want her to peak too early.
Btw, pesca is being aimed at French Guineas and Derby apparently. The 1m 2 1/2f should be perfect for Storm Cat’s. I read up on why the French Jockey Club changed it to 1m 2f, and it was pretty clever.
They did it to attract more quality milers who may well get the extra 2 and a bit furlongs with an economic ride, but also is not enough of a drop back in distance to inconvenience 12f horses. It brings in more money, and much more focus to the race. And how it worked. The front 2 from last year’s French Derby. You may have heard of them – Shamardal and Hurricane Run. Respectively the best miler and 12f horses of last year. I won’t say this very often, so get it on record – well done the French JC.
February 26, 2006 at 10:22 #69012All this talk of A P O’Brien’s Classic horses and no mention of the mighty Fire And Rain?
February 26, 2006 at 11:29 #69013a little confused as to how an unraced horse can be rated so highly, especially from Ballyhype…
