    Fascinating race….

I am simply not sure what to make of Harchibald’s return. he did well on th AW the other night but when the pressure is on…and up against Katchit

Clopf seems to be a bit overrated

Like so many, I am a huge Katchit fan but price is too short for real interest

make or break for Katchit – my favourite horse of the moment. Blythe Knight is the one I fear most and might have a flutter on that one just in case clive.

I shall be interested to see how Carberry rides Harchibald again, as he was given a hard ride I thought at Dundalk.

I agree with his trainer in today’s Post and think Blythe Knight is a very ‘sensible’ price.

I’m not convinced he can beat Katchit, but the favourite has to be taken on at around 6/4 in his first run out of juvenile company, imo.

I couldn’t bring myself to back Harchibald with stolen money.

I’ll be doing the rev f/c with Blythe Knight. I have BK to win the Champ Hurdle this year.

A tricky race from a punting proposition. Katchit at 6/5 doesn’t look particularly enticing, but if he’s a future Champion Hurdle winner, he ought to win tomorrow. Harchibald hasn’t shown his best form for a while now, whilst Al Eile tends to be better over 2 and a half miles. This leaves Blythe Knight and Clopf. If the going stays good, Blythe Knight must have every chance. John Quinn must think a lot of him to pitch him straight into this company first time out. However, Clopf at 8/1 with Ladbrokes could be the best value in the race. Ran adequetely first time out, and if he’s improved for that run, he’ll certainly be in the first 3 with every chance of upsetting the favourite. I’ve noticed in the past on this forum, a few Clopf backers ante post for the Champion Hurdle, or certainly some members fancying him to go close come March. I’d be interested to know their thoughts on his chances tomorrow.

I think that the Irish form is still better than UK form.

    Clopf/Harchibald rev f/c for me.

Mephisto looks a massive price at 40/1. Obviously there’s doubts about his fitness, but he looked in his novice season as if capable of going right to the top.

Equally it wouldn’t surprise me if Harchibald won this without having to come off the bridle. However there’s just too much that has to be taken on trust to risk a bet on him I think.

Sorry, I’m letting my heart rule my head. He probably ran in this last century, he could get round here blindfolded, loves this race, seems to be a different horse when he runs in this – it’s got to be The French Furze!!

Just a quick warning to say it’s absolutely chucking it down here in the North East – or at least where I am (30 mile from Newcastle).

Rain is expected to continue in these parts throughout the night, in fact, the local weather forecast is for ‘freak’ conditions with heavy downpours and very high winds expected.

Why is the weather always dreadful on a weekend, making much of the racing a complete lottery?

    Hello,

I fully agree with what DJ states re: MEPHISTO, he shouldn’t be 40/1

    The EBOR winner has won:
    Over 2m5f at Ayr,
    Over 3m at Haydock [Heavy]
    Over 2m at Aintree…….

OK in 2005, but those performances and the horses’ he beat cannot be dismissed lightly.
The negatives are the obvious time off the course, and I personally ain’t a great fan of Wilson Renwick…

But it is worth taking the 40/1 [somehow I think this will shrink alarmingly], in the hope he may recapture his form, and at that price, a place would do very nicely! 8)

    regards,

    doyley

    Katchit for me.

    Classy, gutsy horse.

    Full of heart.

Hope he goes on to win tomorrow and have a fantastic season.

If Harchibald comes back to his best Katchit will have to sprout wings to beat him.

Its IS a huge IF though.

Can’t have Mephisto. I can’t see a single piece of form over this distance that says he’s entitled to take a hand in this. My view is that he’ll get taken off his feet, and having had such a long break will find this happening far too quickly.

Katchit wins all day for me. Blythe Night second.

To be fair to him, he’s never run over 2m. No chance that the Kelso form with Faasel gives him a squeak?

Katchit too short. But still the best jumper in the field.

My moneys on Harchibald got a feeling he could run a good race 9/2 looks good value imo.
