I’m in favour of lifetime bans, or bans that would keep fixers out until beyond their sporting years. Snooker took a hard line with Stephen Lee (10 year ban until Lee is over 50) quote]
I’ll have to argue with you there.
Snooker and Barry Hearn threw the book at Lee (overweight, low-profile, rare winner).
However Hearn miraculously chose to believe the huge profiled, then current World Champion, John Higgin’s seemingly ludicrously flimsy and cliche’d "Russian Maffia" excuse when he was recorded bang to rights agreeing to throwing frames for money.
He got a token punishment and did not miss a World Championship. I haven’t watched or bet on the sport since.
August 9, 2014 at 13:50 #487899Stephen Lee was hardly a low profile rare winner, PC. He was definitely not such a household name as Higgins, but still a regular on terrestrial coverage and a top performer. He is one of few players on the ever-growing World Snooker tour to have won more than one ranking event in the modern era and was a long-term fixture in the World Top 16.
I agree with you about Higgins and think he should have been more heavily punished than the £75,000 fine for bringing snooker into disrepute and six month ban. Even so, he was cleared by an independent tribunal, so World Snooker did their best to keep any bias towards Higgins out of the equation.

I’d be all for a lifetime ban, but not sure it’s legal.
tbh I can’t see him getting many rides anyway. That’s Lynch, not Lee.

I think Lee’d be a bit heavy.
Value Is EverythingAugust 9, 2014 at 21:46 #487936I agree with the majority here, It’s plainly wrong to allow him back especially now when corruption is being revealed on an almost daily basis. Now is the time to come down heavily on the crooks.
This move simply confirms my view that racing is a big family of insiders bent on pulling the wool over the public’s eyes. Dear old Fergal is one of the family and past errors are put aside to allow him back into the fold. His is not a victimless crime.
The fog of corruption grows ever thicker and the stench less bearable.
As The Two Ronnies once said, ‘even the wool he pulled over your eyes was 50percent nylon’
August 10, 2014 at 18:47 #487990One has to question the integrity of the trainers who put him up as well.
As an aside I no longer back a horse when Fallon is in the race.I did the same with Ferdy Murphy as well (pleased he’s gone).
I just cannot see what good it is to racing to allow him back.
I will never back in a race when Lynch is in it.
The way it’s going I will have to pack it in soon.
Talking of lifetime bans, did Dermot Browne not get one for pulling horses? most famously Browne’s Gazette in the Champion Hurdle

Not so long ago I seem to remember you saying you don’t bet any more Woolfie, because of the (supposed) skulduggery.

What has changed your mind?
Is there less skulduggery around these days?
Value Is EverythingAugust 11, 2014 at 14:43 #488014Another spicy ingredient for the AW this year ….am so happy to be missing it
Racing in the uk is a laughing stock ….so many banned trainers, jockeys , allowed back and besmirch the game even more
When will cheating be rewarded with a life time ban ???
because it needs to be , and soon
imo
August 11, 2014 at 17:53 #488034The stupidity of all this could have been avoided had the BHA not come to such a strange ‘agreement’ with Lynch regarding his punishment.
If they had set down a clearly-defined length of ban – e.g. ten years, as the WPBSA did with Lee – then everyone would know exactly where they stand.
It is beyond me why governing bodies in many sports seemingly prefer pointless complication on such matters rather than simple clarity.

August 11, 2014 at 18:02 #488035Great point Mike.
I think the British justice system could set an example from the top by abolishing these 10 years (3 suspended, 3 removed for good behaviour) type sentences, but that’s a whole different subject..

On the contrary, there is more crookery, I’ve been trying to identify disguised ability on turf flat with some success and I am backing again. It has absolutely nothing to do with form reading.
August 13, 2014 at 11:58 #488146I dont want him riding either of my horses thank you.A cheating sportsman should NEVER be allowed tot ake part again.
August 20, 2014 at 14:26 #488664He has a winner with Midnight Dynamo riding for Jim Goldie at Musselburgh. (14/1)
