February 24, 2005 at 14:19 #58096Hi Everyone.
I said earlier that I would reveal my method of selection for this topic at the end of the month. But I thought that if I revealed it now, it would maybe provoke some constructive comments and suggestions from contributors which would help me make adjustments before the start of the March campaign. Judging on this month’s losses I certainly need it.
So here goes.
My selection method for the Daily Duo is based on two separate systems, and my own intuition.
System One. Using the Racing Post Online daily naps table, I look for any contributor who has a strike rate of at least 30%, and a current losing sequence of at least 4. I make a list of the selections of all the correspondents who fulfil this criteria.
System Two. On the all weather, I note all the horses that are Course and Distance winners, and finished in the first 4 on their last all weather outing. With these I add together the finishing position last time out and the number of days since the horse last ran. Any horse whose total is 10 or less is added to the list from system one.
Now, from the list from the two above systems, my own intuition kicks in. I check for things like going suitability, jockey and trainer stats, forecast price etc. The two horses that seem to be the best bets are my selections for the Daily Duo.
This all may sound a bit ‘hit and miss’, and this month it’s been more miss than hit. But there have been a fair number of good priced winners in the final list. One on the 4th of February at 12/1. It’s just that I seem to have lost my touch this month for picking the right final two.
One flaw that I have noticed in System One is that you can follow a run of losers when the correspondent is having a bad run, and when the winner comes it is short priced or even odds on.
Anyway, there it is for what it’s worth. I welcome any criticism, even if it’s to scrap both systems and try something new. Which is what I’m currently thinking of doing.
All the best Terry.
You post up your method and lo and behold your losses dissipate in one fell swoop.
Onwards and upwards

February 26, 2005 at 11:20 #58104Too right Rex. And it could have been even better as there was and 11/1 winner and a 6/1 winner in the list before I selected my final two. So for my next trick!!!!!!!

February 28, 2005 at 14:34 #58109Terry,
I quite like the second system because it has a certain logical appeal. You are invariably landing on horses with good recent form and those who act on the course.
The first system is one of those that depends on the ‘law of averages’ i.e. in the long run, things will return to the norm. It’s rather like expecting that in a long series of coin-tossing, that heads is more likely to occur following a long run of tails. It just isn’t true- the chances are still 50-50. Maybe you should just concentrate on those tipsters who have a naps strike rate of 30%.
February 28, 2005 at 20:14 #58110Thanks for the constructive comments Artemis. I think for the most part, what you are saying is correct. For this reason I have decided to replace System One with another system of mine for the month of March. I will still be making the final selections for the Daily Duo from a list of possibles provided by the two systems.
In addition to this I am going to begin a separate thread which will be a posting of the full list from both systems each day.
Today’s results L, Won 3/1.
Daily profit………..3 points.
Cum. loss………….5.09 points.
This was not as bad as it looked like being at one point when I was over 30 points adrift.
See you in the March Daily Duo.
Terry.
