Cork all Star is on the money here. Oxfordshire Council apparently implementing a law to ban smoking OUTSIDE. I might move to North Korea as I value freedom of choice.

Dandelion & Burdock is a Classic soft beverage from my childhood, back in the days of glass bottles, returning your empties for 6d and, if you had six empties, being in a position to walk out with a 3s 6d full bottle!

Still the only acceptable drink with a chippy meal Ian. If not available, I would accept Tizer at a push.

I despair when health campaigners talk about increasing the taxes on alcohol. We already pay ridiculously high taxes. Look how much of the price of pint is made up of tax, duty and VAT.

When we were in the EU, I think we paid something like 40% of the total alcohol taxes in the union. Crazy.

Raising taxes would not deter problem drinkers. They would find the money somehow. It would only penalise responsible people.

Raising alcohol taxes has raised shoplifting. Do not underestimate the desperation for a drink someone has when going through the dangerous hell of alcohol withdrawal. Speaking from experience, I am ashamed to say unfortunately.

Cold tap water is hugely underrated.

We are none of us perfect (well, apart from me, obviously!)

Joking aside, I have more respect for anyone who is aware of their frailties and has the courage to admit to them than someone who lives in denial about them.

So maximum respect for TTC on that.

Having a pint of mild in a pleasant pub. A much underappreciated drink. Dark, slightly sweet but not cloying, low in alcohol and very refreshing on a hot day. As it is here.

When I first started going out for a drink(mid 90’s) my dad and his mates all used to love a pint of mild.

I can remember some of the old timers in my youth having a pint of mixed. Half of mild and half of bitter in a pint glass.

And I still occasionally see some older pub goers having half of bitter in a pint glass topped up with a bottle of light ale.

My first time in a pub I didn’t have a clue what to ask for so I just asked for “a pint of bitter please” – it wasn’t too bad, so was my drink of choice for a couple of years.

I always remember my 18th birthday when I could have my first legal drink ….. the trouble was I couldn’t go to my local pub and say it was my 18th birthday because I’d been a regular for almost two years.

In those days they were much more lax with the age rules – they knew but as long as you behaved yourself and weren’t silly they would turn a blind eye.

I think that was more sensible. I would prefer to see 16 year olds drinking in a safe, supervised environment rather than boozing on park benches or under railway bridges.
