June 10, 2009 at 14:21 #233153A compulsory Xenical tablet with each Big Mac would do the trick! I do think, however, that parents with obese children should have to see a dietician to work out why it’s happening; let them kill themselves but not fair on the kids imo. However, it’s probably just as much to do with people and kids glued to their computers day and night as much as eating habits..and on that note I’m off to burn up some calories doing some retail therapy.
June 10, 2009 at 14:27 #233154I have nothing against fat people and so find this thread tad bit harsh on them as eating can be an addiction, however i agree with you about them having big kids… well it’s just so sad. I seen one kid at a soft play place other week when i was there with my son and this poor bairn was so fat it was sad. He was huffing and panting and bright red with the exertion. He was only 4 if that. I’d say it was child abuse but i’m sure his parents thought that they were doing a good job in feeding him up and aren’t educated enough to see the harm they are doing. I just find it sad as that child will not only end up with health problems but the mental issues from being bullied and picked on – which kids will do at school- will be horrible.
As for not being able to work because you are fat…. why are these people classed as disabled?!! What a bad name it gives to people who are genuinely disabled and have to rely on what little benefit they are entitled to. This really gets on my nerves. It’s disgusting that they get paid for sitting around getting fatter. This needs to change. Or maybe we should all get outselves 9000 calories into us everyday and get such a easy life.
June 10, 2009 at 14:37 #233157I’m probably just as concerned about young girls being obsessed with their weight to the point of anorexia [which, I understand, even children suffer from thses days]. I was teenager in the ‘Twiggy’ era, and the pressure on me even then to be skinny was immense. Dread to think what it’s like now. It isn’t always easy to control your weight, though; I had a bad leg for most of last year and my weight shot up. What I do find worrying is that, years ago I used to see programmes about the obesity problem in America, and I’d say we’re almost as bad now.

"Someone came up to me last week and complained about a joke, quite a big-boned girl.
She said: "I think you’re fattist." I said: "No, I think you’re fattest".
