As it’s my first post, I honestly don’t mean this in a macabre way, but bar any post-race comments, is there any way of knowing if a horse suffered a fatality after a race? The reason I ask is that I backed Nothing Man on Monday at Taunton. I didn’t watch the race but listened on William Hill Radio. About halfway round the commentator said that Robbie Dunne kept looking down and quickly pulled him up. The post-race RP comments gave the standard “something went amiss” euphemistic comment and I feared the worst. However, having checked the race notes again prior to posting this, they’ve now been updated to say the vet confirmed the horse was lame. Hopefully a happy ending but as a general point, are fatalities shared publicly? I’m guessing not, due to the negative publicity this would bring?
March 17, 2021 at 09:56 #1530205Welcome Cymro!
You can search for a horse on the BHA site and it will usually say if it is deceased (I say “usually” as some seem to slip through the net – and it can take a while for it to be notified too). Nothing man is not listed as deceased so hopefully he wasn’t badly injured and is still with us
March 17, 2021 at 10:12 #1530209Thank you. Like others I’m sure, I’ve read the forum for a while without taking the next step and registering. Thanks too for the update. Selfishly I’ve had Nothing Man in my tracker for a while and he was well backed on Monday, although that went out the window when I heard the commentary.
March 17, 2021 at 10:26 #1530213I don’t know if you watch either of the dedicated racing channels, Cymro, but they are both very good at updating viewers when horses fall or go wrong.
March 17, 2021 at 10:54 #1530228You could email and ask, if you’re sincere I can’t see them not replying https://www.facebook.com/SamAllwoodPointtoPoint
March 17, 2021 at 13:36 #1530297Thanks all for the replies. I don’t have either of the racing channels, so tend to catch up with the replays in the evenings via the ATR and RTV apps. Also listen to WH Radio most days, if and when work allows.
March 17, 2021 at 13:42 #1530298The memorials section in this forum is kept up to date fairly quickly with any bad news.
March 17, 2021 at 21:42 #1530513Also you can check the race results on racingpost.com. Usually they’ll say if there was a fatality.
