I’ve no problem with offside like it is now but it would be better if goals is what people want that any part of your torso is in line with the defenders torso that’s fine even if your arm, leg or toenail is over
For me below is level. Cm, mm stuff is nonsense the body is level

Yes, I do
tonight’s game being the biggest example
they either do or are **** at their job
4 people in the VAR room
blind Dave could see it was onside
get the lot of them off to ref in SaudiCharles Darwin to conquer the World
October 1, 2023 at 08:16 #1665096If it was a genuine mistake
they should have got together at half time, got both managers in and Liverpool would have been given a walk in goal from second half kick off

October 1, 2023 at 21:00 #1665263My every game bet on me local team, the Cobblers is 4 – 1 home win.
Typically 33’s to 66’s, the theory I have is that I need only one or two every two years to be ahead..
Anyone else have a blind bet on their lot?
No need to be embarrassed. We all have our little side continuous loosing bets..Im down a bit these days as we have a bloody defence minded manager..
I prefer the gung ho type..
But alas, I know our limitations. and the Yoyo club we are.October 1, 2023 at 21:24 #1665268I don’t know about any conspiracy against particular teams but you have to wonder what the point is if they are still getting decisions wrong. Everyone still argues about VAR till the cows come home just like they did before it existed. Has it changed anything? If they scrap it at least we can celebrate goals again.

I agree.

As I understand it:
The VAR ref actually came to the “correct” decision, Nathan. That it was onside.
However, he was wrongly believing the on pitch ref had also called it onside.
So the VAR chap said to the on pitch ref “check complete” which made the pitch ref believe his own offside decision was correct.I just feel whenever there is a known misunderstanding between refs like this they should be able to change it even if the game has re-started. Just add a goal. There could easily be a cut off point of say 10 minutes after the restart, giving ample time for VAR to let the ref know there’s been a misunderstanding.
Am sure something will be done to stop this happening in the future. Unfortunately Liverpool were the ones getting the wrong end of it. Can see why a Liverpool fan might think it’s a conspiracy against their team.
Pressure has been put on VAR to speed things up and that can make this type of wrong outcome more likely.
Yes, a ban. How long should imo depend on his record prior to this. If previously perfect then one (admittedly calamitous) mistake does not require sacking. A long ban will suffice. Everyone makes mistakes. However, if his record has a number of other (lesser) mistakes then yes sack him.
That said, I do think even if coming back he should be kept away from Liverpool games for a year or three.
Value Is EverythingOctober 2, 2023 at 23:05 #1665401good post Ginge..
There shouldn’t really have been a mix up. Instead of saying check complete, you say its a goal or no goal. Really make things complicated don’t they.
Focus clearly wasn’t on the game. The tv clearly shows a disappointed striker, then pans to the offside flag.Regard ban/prior record. What would you be going off.. the amount of times they have had to come out and apologised for an error.?

October 2, 2023 at 23:14 #1665402I do have to say though this could work in Liverpool’s favour
They have started the season on fire results wise and performance has been better than expected with the new signings bedding in. Dominik Szoboszlai is the nearest thing I’ve seen to Steven Gerrard. Passing, shooting, dribbling, running, tackling and he’s quick. Liverpool were down to 10 against Newcastle and he did the running for two people and again on Saturday the yards he put in were incredible
anyway I regress… Jurgen Klopp is superb motivator and he’ll turn this into a us vs the World scenario and Liverpool has the squad and legs this season to carry it through. I’m expecting another long unbeaten run to come out of this.Charles Darwin to conquer the World
October 3, 2023 at 09:34 #1665414I was being a bit facetious when saying we may as well scrap VAR, it’s clearly here to stay in some form.
As you say Nathan, why not just ask the question ‘was it a goal or not’? I didn’t see this particular one but as far as I can see, the VAR official was basically asked to ‘check the decision’ which he confirmed to be ‘correct’. The problem being that he was confirming the wrong decision thinking the goal had/should have been been awarded. Is that his fault, the system, or a bit of both? Calling for his head is unfair IMO, a few weeks stood down and perhaps a refresher of the laws and let him back. He’s now public enemy number one which I think is a bit unfair.
I don’t think you can play on until a final decision has been made, ten minutes for example is over 10% of the match and especially at the end a team will play very differently depending on the scoreline, amending it up to ten minutes later is going to disadvantage one team or the other massively. If you want correct decisions, you’re going to have to give the officials time. If you want the match over by 4.50pm, you have to accept that rushed decisions may go wrong. Much of what the referees arbitrate on is subjective anyway (offside shouldn’t be but as we have seen, even that is contentious at times).
How far do you look into things? We’ve all seen soft free kicks given away 25/30 yards out that end up being smacked into the top bins. Should they be looked at and disallowed? Seconds yellows where the first one was harsh? It’s a rabbit hole.
Maybe one day we’ll have AI refs
October 3, 2023 at 09:57 #1665418Regard ban/prior record. What would you be going off.. the amount of times they have had to come out and apologised for an error.?
——————–
Yes Nathan, something like that. Maybe with one or two decisions they’ve generally been recognised as getting wrong without actually apologising for them.
Do hope Liverpool can do it again this season. To my way of thinking Man City haven’t been as dominant in their play as last year, even before last weekend. Haaland in particular seems to be missing a lot of good opportunities.
Liverpool are playing very well overall, but do still need to start their games better. Trouble is if continuing to let the opposition have the first goal there will be times they can’t get it back. Especially against the better sides.
