Today i launch the 2013 paddock EYECATCHERS, this year i will highlight horses especially 2 and 3 year old maidens that look physically good enough to go onto win, and on the days they next run, i will post a thread to comment on whether they have their ideal conditions, occasionally i will mention other age horses that caught the eye as possible next time out winners.
Doncaster 22nd March, going soft hvy places,
1.55 5f Brocklesby paddock eyecatchers were MICK’S YER MAN who i think could win again soon, and VODKA TIME who was a strong sort physically and finished second could go on to win next time out.In the 2.00 class 3 1m 2 1/2f handicap the winner MISTER IMPATIENCE was a standout in the paddock and won pulling away, looks like he will be winning again soon, he is trained by Mark Johnston and ridden by Joe Fanning
In the 4.45 class 5 Maiden stakes 7f, YUL FINEGOLD looked good in the paddock, i think he could be winning on better ground, and the biggest eyecatcher of the day was the winner of the same race, a strong looking muscled filly called AETNA caught the eye in the paddock and on the track and a one definitely to follow.

March 30, 2013 at 10:59 #434396Micks Yer Man, an eyecatcher from last week, looked great in the paddock and won pulling away, he is definitely one to follow and could win today.
April 18, 2013 at 07:34 #436589Two out of two so far this season for the Eyecatchers as Vodka Time won the 2.20 at Newmarket yesterday.
There hasnt been much flat racing for me to report on so far, however im off to Ripon today and from next week the flat season really takes off in the north so there will be lots of Eyecatchers coming your way.
April 20, 2013 at 07:59 #436818One of my eyecatchers from Doncaster runs today in the 7.00 at Nottingham, AETNA, i liked her strong build and more impressed with how she came flying from behind off the bridle to win the race she runs in her first handicap today, the only question mark is the ground, it was soft at Doncaster and its, good good to firm in places today. It may be wise to watch the market to determine whether to bet on her today or not.
April 20, 2013 at 14:44 #436860At Ripon on Thursday 18th April Going Good, there we no 2 year olds that stood out.
However 3 year olds caught the eye:
The best looking horse of the day by a mile was the Charles Hills trained horse COUNTRY WESTERN who won the 3.35 class 3 1m handicap, he was slowly into his stride, took a keen hold and stayed on well and won by 2 lengths, i believe this horse will be winning again soon.
Another eyecatcher was in the 5.05 class 5 6f handicap the Richard Fahey trained RIGHT TOUCH, a strong good looking horse who ran well to win, and i believe this one will be winning again soon.
April 21, 2013 at 22:51 #436969One of my Doncaster Eyecatchers runs tomorrow YUL FINEGOLD in the 6.00 at Windsor, this is the colt’s handicap debut in what looks like a tough race against some strong competition.
April 23, 2013 at 10:25 #437097Pontefract 23rd April going good – 2.10 Maiden Fillies Stakes 5 furlong Class 5 EYECATCHER – LADY CAPTAIN trained by Kevin Ryan, a big strong good looking filly who got hampered at the start, ran a bit green, then got bumped into when making progress, but kept on running well in final furlong to finish 6th, she looks like she could be winning very soon.
Another one to take out of the same race that should be winning soon was the Richard fahey HESKIN, she didnt catch my eye in the parade ring as much as Lady Captain, but she looked good, and it was the way she finished that really caught the eye, she got hampered at the start ran very green, but when she got the hang of it she absolutely flew at the end to finish 3rd, a one to watch for next time out!
April 24, 2013 at 08:58 #437218One of my 3 year old EYECATCHERS from Doncaster runs today MISTER IMPATIENCE, Epsom 3.20 in the Derby Trial, i loved how he looked in the paddock and was so impressive how he won effortlessly, it was soft heavy in places that day, and today at Epsom it is good, good to firm in places, but i do think he has a winning chance.
May 1, 2013 at 21:01 #438149Great start with these Eyecatcher – I’m really interested in the two year olds as the paddock can tell stories you don’t see in the formbook.
May 2, 2013 at 09:45 #438221One of my eyecatchers is running today Lady Captain, i was impressed with her strong build for a filly and felt she looked like she would win a 5f race very soon, she runs in the 2.00 at Redcar.
May 9, 2013 at 10:49 #439114Because of bad weather in the north there are not many good 2 year olds on display yet, as some trainers are behind with their training programmes.
I have 2 i would like to mention that caught my eye.
In my last post i flagged up Lady Captain who ran at Redcar on 2nd May, when i first saw her she was in a fillies maiden and i was impressed by her strength and she looks like a filly that could win a race this year, however at Redcar she was extremely green and immature in the paddock and got away slowly and ran very green.
It was in this Redcar race that i spotted my next eyecatcher, the winner Innocently trained by David Omeara ridden by Danny Tudhope was a little green in the paddock, but looked an athletically built strong 2 year old, he made all raced keenly and was pushed out to win by 1 1/4 lengths, and looks like he will be winning again.
My next eyecatcher ran at Catterick on 7th May a nice strong looking colt called Porsh Herrik trained by J. Quinn and ridden by M. O’Connell he was green and dwelt at the start, but then started to get the hang of it, and just when he was getting into the race he got badly hampered, so badly the jockey ended up standing up in the saddle pulling on the reins, the jockey at fault got banned for 2 days, Porsh Herrik hinted at ability, and i think he is one who could be winning soon.
May 15, 2013 at 07:38 #439650Two of my eyecatchers are running at York today the David Omeara 2 year old Innocently is running at 4.25 in the novice stakes i loved him physically and he won impressively, but that was a much weaker race than todays, but with 2 year olds who have only ran once its hard to tell their true potential and he looks to have some stiff opposition today with the Richard Hannon runner, but could be of interest at a price if there is any positive movement in the market.
The other runner i had flagged up was a 3 year old at Doncaster Aetna, a strong filly that was a real eyecatcher in running on her first time out, however she ran very disappointly in her next run at Nottingham, that first time out run was on very soft ground, and if the ground softens sufficiently today following all the rain, she may show that early promise again. Old Man Clegg was a 2 year old i liked last season and he is in the same race and i know he likes York and likes soft ground and he has the same trainer, although he is slighly out of the handicap.
May 18, 2013 at 12:23 #439955Today one of my eyecatchers runs at Doncaster in the 5.55 Maiden race. The John Quinn trained Porsh Herrik a nice strong colt who got hampered in his first outing at Catterick recently.
May 18, 2013 at 12:48 #439960Three eyecatchers to mention this week first of all in the 5f Maiden at Beverley on Tuesday 14th, the eyecatcher was a strong filly called JACQUOTTE DELAHAYE trained by Bryan smart ridden by Tom Eaves she was hampered at the start, ran green and then stayed on strongly flying at the end. One to note next time out in similar company and could be especially interesting in a fillies only maiden.
The eyecatcher of the week was at York on Thursday in the class 3 maiden at 4.25. The Kevin Ryan trained SLEEPER KING ridden by Philip Maken, was the standout paddock pick, a lovely big strong colt showed good speed leading till 2 furlongs out and finished a close 4th beaten just 1 1/2 lengths, he was running on the disadvantaged side of the track drawn 2 considering the going had changed at that point to soft because of torrential rain. one to consider when running in similar company.
Another eyecatcher was at York on Friday in the Class 1 listed race for 2 year old fillies. The Bryan Smart LEXINGTON ROSE is a filly ive already seen this season, and i was impressed with how much she has grown already, she looked bigger and stronger, and ran a very pleasing race at a good price to finish close 4th only beaten 3 lengths in soft ground, one to note on better ground especially if she is dropped slightly in grade.
May 26, 2013 at 17:18 #440833At last the maiden races are really getting going now and i have a few eyecatchers to report on. At Redcar on Monday 20th going good to soft, in the 7f maiden fillies race the J Quinn ABSOLUTE DIAMOND ridden by M. O’Connell caught the eye, physically she is a very strong good looking filly she was having her second run and finished down the field, i think she is one to consider when entered in a handicap.
In the next division of the fillies maiden the Neville Bycroft trained ADIATOR caught the eye again a big strong good looking filly who chased the leaders and gave the well fancied James Fanshaw filly a race, finishing second, she has the scope to expect further improvement at a similar level.
Later in the afternoon in the 1 mile maiden was the biggest eyecatcher the 3 year old INDIAN TRIFONE the best looking colt of the day trained by Ed Walker ridden by Luke Morris he was slowly away but made late headway and threw down a serious challenge to the Haggas trained winner and made a very promising debut, one to definitely consider when running in similar company.
At Newcastle May 21t going soft the one eyecatcher of the day in the 1m 2f maiden, was the Keith dalgliesh trained 3yo maiden ARR KID ridden by Tom Eaves, he was the pick of the paddock, a big strong colt and outran his price of 28-1 to give the odds on Roger Varian horse a serious fight to the line having led from the off, one to consider when running in similar company.
At York May 25th in the class 3 6f handicap there were two eyecatchers which were my paddock picks the Kevin Ryan trained ASTAIRE ridden by Neil Callen was a generous price of 14-1 and was physically the best in the paddock being big and strong, i did think he could look better in his coat, so when he won really well leading most of the way, i thought he had definite improvement in him, so one to definitely consider in the future, the second eyecatcher in the paddock finished second at 40-1 the M. Dodds trained KOMMANDER KIRKUP was by far the best in his coat, but not as physically impressive as the winner, but he ran a very good race to finish runner up beating some Newmarket hopefuls, he may need further, and he is one to consider when running in similar company.
The more maidens i see the more i realise there are those who are worth noting when running in similar company but there are also some who are definitely above average and from now on, when i see those i will put a ** next to their names.
The list so far would include:
SLEEPER KING **
INDIAN TRIFONE **
ASTAIRE **May 29, 2013 at 07:54 #441060Two eyecatchers are running today at Beverley : ADIATOR in the 6.35 a big good looking mare who ran a really good race to finish 2nd at Redcar last time out, the fancied runners in the market are 3 horses from top yards in Newmarket. In the 7.35 we have LEXINGTON ROSE who had improved physically from her previous run at Newcastle to when i saw her again run at York where she finished 4th, she is the paper favourite for the Hilary Needler.
May 29, 2013 at 08:26 #441066Another horse i flagged up as an eyecatcher also runs at Beverley Absolute Diamond, i was very impressed with this one physically she is running over 7 1/2 furlong maiden tonight, she has the build of a sprinter so may be better over a 5f or 6f in handicaps.
