Thought this a really strong renewal on Sunday
Not too often I go for market leader, but loved the comeback run from Ramses De Teille last time, and he ran ok in this last year, so off a decent mark, he’d be main hope. Stablemate Remastered has been awful the last twelve months, and he’s dangerous to discount. I really should just bet him here, but even with his poor form, and advancing years, I’d rather he used this as a prep for The Ultima
Lord Du Mesnil and Wayfinder also interesting.
I haven’t taken the opening 11-2 for Ramses De Teille, but do think it’s fair. He’s main hope then right now, but I’ll see how it looks tomorrow. Remastered not far behind
Took the 11-2
Ramses De Teille 11-2
February 10, 2024 at 17:07 #1680732I’m hoping Fiddlerontheroof can still retain some of his ability , I’d love to see him run a big race
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 10, 2024 at 17:22 #1680735I like Fiddlerontheroof too, and he’s my selection at a hefty price. Leap of faith required in all honesty though
February 11, 2024 at 11:30 #1680825Wayfinder on a low weight in heavy conditions and Harry Cobden booked should have a chance.
Wayfinder 9/1
February 11, 2024 at 11:33 #1680826Glad to see some bits of money about for Fiddler , even tickled him for the National
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 11, 2024 at 11:36 #1680827Have decided that 25’s is too big for remastered.
I’d say he’s been running in some better races than this but that’s stretching it. He’s set off. That’s about as much as can be said about his performances of late.
Up against some old rogues going a slower pace in this though ought to give him a better chance of at least getting round.
February 11, 2024 at 12:05 #1680831Thrown a dart at Celebre D’Allen 15-2 ew 5 places.
February 11, 2024 at 14:40 #1680849Wayfinder 9s – i also saw the booking of HC as a positive👍
February 11, 2024 at 15:22 #1680857A cracking lineup with a few of these looking to bolster their chances of getting into the Grand National.
Chuffed to see Fiddlerontheroof back on the racetrack, and I hope he shows some of his old spark. He’s not exactly over the hill at 10, but you have to take it on trust after that layoff. I can’t bring myself to back him for Aintree, so I’ll be watching him with interest.
Lord Du Mesnil has been a cliff horse of mine for what seems like an eternity. Conditions will suit and should be thereabouts.
February 11, 2024 at 19:07 #1680887Fiddlerontheroof got a run in today to qualify him for Grand National. After time off he did well for a long way even running back on at one point he is a stayer. He enjoyed the national when he did run in it
Ask me early got advantage of handy mark and being qualified to run in a veterans chase, congratulations to connections

February 11, 2024 at 22:25 #1680902Back on to the topic of the race anyway glad the faller got up and jockey, was tired fall and jockey almost under his mount. Who was tired and did not get up straight away

February 11, 2024 at 22:47 #1680904I was of course very pleased that horse and jockey were OK after Conkwell Legend’s fall.
However, where veterans’ races are supposed to provide opportunities for exposed older horses, it does seem a little against the spirit of them that an unexposed novice with only four previous chase starts to his name such as Conkwell Legend was eligible.
February 12, 2024 at 00:35 #1680909What Marlingford said.
Conkwell Legend was running in a Grade 2 novices event just eight weeks ago!
February 12, 2024 at 10:17 #1680924I thought Fiddlerontheroof ran with credit all things considered. I’ll be interested in seeing what the handicapper does to his mark. I would imagine it will be left untouched, but connections won’t want it going down too much, if at all, if Aintree is the aim. I’d be getting one more run in him to properly gauge where his wellbeing, something like the Grimthorpe at Doncaster.
I wonder if there is scope for a minimum number of runs required to be eligable for these qualifiers, to avoid runners “against the spirit of the series”. I love this series, not least because you know where you stand with the majority of those who take part. I’d hate for it to become another game of chess.
February 12, 2024 at 11:37 #1680928To pluck a number out of the air, I’d suggest a minimum of 10 previous runs in chases under Rules should be a requirement for a veterans’ chase. Of yesterday’s participants, the only other runner that this would have excluded was the winner, by one run.
Fair play to Neil Mulholland for entering Conkwell Legend as he met the current eligibility requirements. It very nearly paid off.
