Disappointing news as I prefer ATR and have no intention of paying for RUK.
December 14, 2011 at 23:58 #382691There is a very even balance currently between broadcasters at the moment.
I personally prefer RUK for the analysis and style…Cunningham, Mellish, Freemantle etc. are mostly superior.
Nick Luck & Lydia Hislop are miles ahead of Luke Harvey, Richard Pitman though Gary O’Brien and Sean Boyce even up the score a fair bit in their facilitating roles. What is of some concern is that on busy days neither channel can handle 3 meetings properly. So without an RUK2 or ATR2 then the concentration of meetings in one space is broadly bad news for me…maybe others also.
December 15, 2011 at 00:46 #382695Oh dear, is Broonie looking for another job?
Possibly, possibly not; but my first thoughts are that there will still be enough available work fronting coverage at Sedgefield, Hexham, Newcastle and Ripon (to name the four that spring immediately to mind) for him to remain in the picture.
I’m pretty pleased with these swaps all in all, particular in regard of Perth given that at a stroke it bolsters RUK’s summer jumping coverage – it’s still thinner than ATR’s, but the imbalance is lessened a touch now.

Don’t suggest having a RUK2 they’ll only charge double for the service
December 15, 2011 at 17:44 #382782Changing the subject slightly but on the subject of quality – has anybody seen the Racing Post Greyhound Channel?
It looks as though it is being recorded on a cheap mobile phone.
I have only seen one programme Paul, but have to agree it looks VERY cheap and shabby and the pictures of the racing are rubbish
December 15, 2011 at 17:47 #382783Seriously, a little disappointed, other than Neesom I don’t think RUK is full of NH lovers is it – think Willoughby, McNae, Persad.
I agree RUK needs more jumps guys, have worked out that Nick Luck much prefers the flat
December 20, 2011 at 12:09 #383359No doubt the RUK subscriptions will be going up in light of this.
Monthly online subscriptions go up from £9.99 to £15 on January 20th, if the mailshot I’ve just received is any guide.
I’m sure I’ll cope – just need to make sure I’m an extra fiver up each month from here on… ah. Oh dear.

I will stick to watching the replays on Sportinglife Jeremy. No doubt the TV subs will go up at some point as well. Which probably also means that the ATR online subs will go up to!!!!

December 21, 2011 at 01:12 #383485£20 per month TV & on-line subs for RUK to continue for at least the whole of 2012 in the pleasant E-mail that I received from them today.
April 24, 2012 at 11:15 #401984I understand why Exeter has moved to Racing UK with it changing owners a while ago but am unsure what the reasons were for Perth and Kelso.
I always thought they gave Kelso really good coverage.
Is this the last change for now have all the other courses now resigned their deals for xx years?
Plus of course ATR has all of Ireland when is this due for renewal is there any chance Racing UK might go for Irish racing or a share of it?

I always thought they gave Kelso really good coverage.Blooming shame I’m not going to be able to watch Perth after this week as it won’t be on At The Races after this week and I don’t have Racing UK. Have just set the video.
There will also be the one race on Channel 4 on Friday.
It’s always made quite interesting viewing, with dear old Gordon Brown presenting the coverage on At The Races.
How he made time to present the races in between his day job of bankrupting the country with his reckless spending and borrowing sprees as Prime Minister, I will never know. Er, thanks, Gordie, as they say.May 4, 2012 at 02:26 #402950Having watched the replay from Kelso yesterday, I noticed they have changed a couple of camera angles for the better. The most notable being the camera at the finish. Much closer shots coming up the home straight from the stands, rather than ATRS silly out of line shots. However in a close finish, you will have to rely on the course commentator/judge, as their is no still TV shots on the line.
I hope they change the finishing camera angle at Perth, maybe same position but on course rather than the very tight stands side camera we have been aquainted to over the years.
May 4, 2012 at 09:41 #402961The question is are any other courses likely to swop? RUK now have 33 to ATR’s 28.
May 4, 2012 at 11:17 #402964Black gOLD ….good question , and pertinent , I would think the answer would have to be yes , but not many …..
The dross channel will soldier on , would be lovely if the Irish premier tracks switched

IMO OF COURSE
Ricky
May 4, 2012 at 11:48 #402967If RUK get many more tracks, we will have to endure much more split-screen coverage and rushing between meetings without the quality analysis and features which give RUK much of its appeal.
May 4, 2012 at 16:50 #402987All the UK tv deals have been done now until 2018 I believe not sure about the Irish.

Seems a long time for a rights to broadcast contract, thought they would have been 3years max.
