Sadly broke a front leg when falling at the last in the very last race before Christmas, the Ladbroke Hurdle.
What really amazes me is Lydia’s optimism when a horse runs around with a swinging leg. That “fingers crossed” thing is just stupid and ridiculous as it really doesn’t heal any broken equine bones.Rest In Peace Evening Hush!
December 23, 2017 at 16:23 #1333696Poor mare, I hate that feeling when you see them have a brief struggle to rise, then they get up and you think oh good maybe they just got a leg caught in the reins…then they try to weight bear and hope just goes out like a light

Agree the “fingers crossed” platitudes are just ridiculous. Fair enough for a horse that’s down after a tired fall and there is some hope that it’s winded. But a horse on three legs….better just say in neutral tones “being attended to; we’ll keep viewers updated if we can”.
December 23, 2017 at 16:37 #1333700‘Up but looking a bit wobbly, she had a pretty hard fall’ was ITV’s comment.
I thought at that stage she was just winded and was hoping not to see her name on here.
Poor girl such a terrible way to go and so sad for all her connections.
RIP Evening Hush
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...December 23, 2017 at 19:05 #1333734Ran her heart out today; another sad end to what had been a good days racing. RIP
December 23, 2017 at 23:38 #1333761What is so ironically sad about this poor little girl having to be put down is, the title of the race “racing welfare handicap hurdle. I wish the commentators, and presenters wouldn’t sugar coat these horrendous breakdowns of the horses. Just tell the truth, these things matter, because it’s a sad loss to all connections with the horses. R.I.P Evening Hush
