A few whispers have been doing the rounds for a while now that Gosden’s Antarah is out for the season following a bad setback. Been taken out the Derby betting by a few firms the last week but nothing confirmed as of yet officially.
April 10, 2022 at 13:52 #1592782Pity. I did have a small punt on him at 20/1 because he did look very good on debut.
That is the chance you take with ante-post betting, I suppose.
April 10, 2022 at 15:57 #1592826Antarah is not entered for the Dante which you would expect if all was well. I quite like Magisteral who does have a Dante entry and has good breeding. By Frankel and out of a Darshaan Mare.
April 10, 2022 at 16:53 #1592847While one should never jump to conclusions the colt that “might be more than a Maiden and might be a Derby horse is, err, still a Maiden.”
Should win one, though.

April 10, 2022 at 17:00 #1592852I’d have thought they’d want to win a Maiden with him first.
Time will tell.

April 10, 2022 at 17:40 #1592857Not sure I would be a hurry to ever back him, even in a maiden. Perhaps it is unfair to judge him after one run but he looks like another slowcoach in the mould of High Definition and Wordsworth.
April 10, 2022 at 17:47 #1592859It is tough to envisage a scenario in which he would be what might be called a value bet.
Nice sort, should win a Maiden (but will be odds-on) but unlikely to be a Derby colt.

April 10, 2022 at 18:25 #1592866Fair comment, and I did think about Serpentine, but he won The Derby in Covid year when the race wasn’t run until July, so he had more time to progress.
I see Waterville is currently 30 for The Derby at Betfair Exchange.
Can’t say I’m tempted tbh.

If he was trained by just about anyone else, he would probably not even be quoted. How can that price be taken seriously, based purely on the Ballydoyle hype.
April 10, 2022 at 19:35 #1592880I agree, tbh.

April 11, 2022 at 00:27 #1592902I’ll have to find another one talked up by the master ;o)
April 11, 2022 at 07:16 #1592945I get it insomuch as if you latch onto one that goes all the way you can be sitting on a nice ante-post bet.
But some of these ante-post quotes for Maidens are ludicrous as the vast majority don’t make the grade.
Talk means nothing and I’d want at least 66/1 about any unraced colt from any yard before I’d even think about backing it for a Classic.
But that’s never on offer as the bookies know plenty of punters will get involved based on hype at odds lower than 33/1.
