I think people forget that Murtagh walked away…
I think it will be a great realsionship…Moore is the best jockey and when the best jockey is on the best horses their is always a good chance it will go well.
I just happy my Derby ante post horse has a rider as Capable as Moore to teach him on what is a critical run for his future
April 10, 2011 at 04:04 #349567Guess we will find out in a few hours whether Ballydoyle have a credible Derby Candidate to challenge Frankel. I know Seville is highly thought of but you get the sense that they are pinning there hopes on Recital to be there main hope this year. He has looked impressive so far, now he has to step up and do it as a 3 year old. I await the result with anticipation!
April 10, 2011 at 11:02 #349607I’d imagine that Seville’s being aimed at the Dante. That could be an interesting match if Frankel turns up and possibly World Domination too, however unlikely that may be.
April 10, 2011 at 15:22 #349646Well I’m sure we’ll see a much improved Recital in a month’s time, but I don’t care how good or bad the ride was, he’s finished amongst 95-82 rated horses. The pacemaker’s nearly won it and was taken on early by the other pacemaker so it was run at a decent gallop. Just looks no good to me.
April 11, 2011 at 16:57 #349808Having a few days ago made the silly error of confusing World Domination with his stablemate Midsummer Son, this time I am sure that the most hyped unraced horse in the Derby field is actually entered in a race. Newbury 4:15 on Saturday 16 April in a 1m 3f Maiden. Let’s hope that all the ante-post plungers are not shocked and disappointed, and that the weight of the hype does not slow him down too much.
John Gosden’s Nathaniel is also entered. It would be extremely vexing for him if he were to be beaten into second by World Domination, after having been narrowly beaten by two of Henry Cecil’s other Derby colts (Frankel & Picture Editor) last year.
April 11, 2011 at 17:54 #349823No mistaking it this time MV! I’ll be there. Should be a great day’s racing although have noticed that the Greenham and John Porter have remained open due to lack of entries.
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
April 11, 2011 at 20:02 #349861There is a whole host of runners, and I wouldn’t disagree with any of your selections, as it still remains to be seen how the colts have wintered.
The one from left-field I like is
Tonnerre
for Sir Michael Stoute. He’s well bred as you would expect being owned by Ballymacoll, and comes from the family of North Light, and he may even make up into a Leger type as his pedigree is full of stamina. However he ran very well on debut, in a very hot 17 runner maiden at Haydock which is working out very well, keeping on from a mile back to take third. Despite the winner and second pulling well clear, it was a very promising effort especially as his yard send their juveniles out well short of peak fitness, and it will be interesting to see how he gets on this season.
His entered in a number of maidens over the coming weekend, which implies Stoute maybe thinking of a Derby trial should everything go to plan. It’s also worth noting that the Newbury maiden his entered in was won by a closely related relative of his Gamut, who we all know didn’t turn out to badly. While Stoute also won the Leicester maiden his entered in with Derby runner-up Tartan Bearer.
Currently avaliable at 699/1 on the machine, which doesn’t exactly inspire confidence!
April 13, 2011 at 15:12 #350134I had £ 2 this morning on it at 600/1 now it’s 70/1 on the machine I know it doesn’t mean
alot at this stage but if it does win I’ll owe you a drink red rum lolApril 15, 2011 at 00:11 #350335Interesting week for Derby contenders.
One of my shortlisted Derby hopes went in today, Midsummer Fair winning the Wood Ditton earlier for Al Zarooni. Decent price too, 6/1. The trainer suggested he’s not good enough for the Derby and I’d go along with that. The Wood Ditton’s an awful maiden. God knows why it’s so revered, probably because it’s the only maiden with a proper title.
Newbury will be extremely interesting. Suhaili, World Domination, Voodoo Prince and Fiorente all down to run. Fiorente has no Dante entry for Stoute which is strange given 5 others of Stoute are all in. He’s been backed at 1000 and currently up there at 330 and then 110. He’s not good enough.
All of the other unraced horses on my list are ridiculous prices and won’t be winning anything.
So effectively my Derby shortlist is;
Ecliptic
Frankel
Midsummer FairSuhaili
Voodoo Prince
World Domination(Those not in bold either injured, not good enough or more than likely won’t run)
I’m giving a pardon to both Dubai Prince & Casamento, who fail only on the ‘debuted at a Group 1 track’ trend a la High Chaparral. They debuted at Gowran Park & Tipperary respectively.
I hadn’t looked at the supplementary entries, perhaps foolishly, and 1 stands out.
Strategic Bid – he debuts tomorrow at Newbury alongside Voodoo Prince and holds a Dante entry. I’ve backed him at 150s and 200s.
(Dubai Prince & Casamento supplemented too but that was obvious from a long time ago)
Marksmanship’s another vaguely interesting one but surely Ballydoyle would’ve had him entered from a very early stage if he were any good, and he’s a mid/late-April foal.
p.s. Please note that the main shortlist of 6 has been whittled down from the original list of 394 entries. It’s taken a colossal amount of work and time, so it’d be delightful if it paid off.

That is about as impressive as a Maiden winner can be in preparation for a classics campaign. It could be a big year for Mr Cecil. Gr1 worldwide domination awaits.
Who thought it would go off that price? I’ve never seen so many posts mention an unraced horse. He was coltish and green in the yard calling out to mummy. Did the same in the gates too. You’d think there’s a stack of improvement to come from this fellow.
7/1 the Derby though? Come in suckers!

!
Short for a maiden winner but ask yourself what price would you want to lay him at? Following his sky high home reputation that was an incredibly impressive debut. No stamina doubts. I wouldn’t fancy laying him at 7/1 let alone bigger.
April 16, 2011 at 17:43 #350601Yup Chiswickian’s spot on, had the absolute pleasure of being at Newbury today and seeing some beautifully turned out colts. World Domination wasn’t one of them and was acting up, albeit only slightly.
Suhaili was very unfit and ran free. He’ll win next time out for sure. Kiltkurn or whatever he was called, fav in the 4.50, will also win next time out and the Brian Meehan horse who finished 4th in the 5.25, owned by Highclere and ridden by Dwyer, will win next time out. He looked ready to rumble today but a typical Meehan horse and needed the run. Voodoo Prince also needed the run but myself and my mate both expected him to run a lot better than he did. The John Dunlop colt (number 8 ) in that race should be avoided at absolutely all costs.
Must also add that in the winner’s enclosure Ton Queally got off his horse, and as he was talking to Cecil had a smirk on his face and was shaking his head. I have a feeling he was saying ‘this horse is incredible’.

Which one Frankel or World Domination?

Only saw the race through the Sporting Life site but I think Zarkava means World Domination
April 16, 2011 at 19:02 #350614I do. Quadrant was the Brian Meehan horse I was referring to and Kirthill the Cumani one.
April 17, 2011 at 15:29 #350764Hugely impressed with World Domination….what a stamp of a horse he is.
Regarding the horses such as Voodoo Prince has to have no chance as does that varian horse Sualhili or whatever its called.
April 17, 2011 at 15:31 #350765That oxx horse that ran a eye catching race behind marksmanship runs in the maiden and could be a rank outsider.
Prob run in the Derrinstown with Notable graduate and recital
