The distaff side of his pedigree is not enough for him to stay middle distances to be honest. Sad if he has been sold as I liked the horse last year.
Ballydoyle has such of a battalion of older horses to be sure, though surely a speedier son of Montjeu would appeal to Coolmore?
Hoping they bring him out over 10f.
May 8, 2011 at 05:39 #354397Let Galileo get the Guineas horses with the speed. Montjeu can get the middle distance ones.Or the NH Champion Hurdle types.
May 8, 2011 at 05:49 #354398Zarkava, your most recent post reminded me of the jewish woman leaving the restaurant in the Catskills, when asked by the manager how her dinner went she replied "the food tasted like poison, poison and "she said "there was not enough of it". Poor old Janvermeer. He is too slow and nobody wants him.
May 8, 2011 at 20:22 #354476Just watched both Pour Moi and Recital in their respective races this weekend. One was impressive, the other not.
I wouldn’t back Recital with stolen for the Derby. Very keen on my lad now.
May 8, 2011 at 20:50 #354481Jan Vermeer too slow?? I would have to question that analysis
Regarding Recital it was a fine performance but i cant understand why he keeps hanging…a tendacy he has shown on all 3 televised going on left handed tracks. He is a fine looking individual….a big tall colt with long legs. Hopefully he stop that tendancy to hang but it can’t be the ground or greeness at this stage of his career. Still trying to figure out what happened but he shorten after the Dante and i may look to trade a position.
Most interesting words from AOB was re Seville….he said that he was a laid back and cant get near Recital speed on the gallops. So in that case Seville is a boat. No chance in the Derby and could easily double in price after the Dante. Age of Aquarius anyone?…reminds of this horse.
May 8, 2011 at 20:52 #354482Pour Moi beat Vadamar i see. I say those 2 will be kept in France.
May 8, 2011 at 20:58 #354483That race was also in too a very stiff headwind…time backs up a decent performance not taking the wind into performance.
Clearly the AOB no.1 as Fallon down to ride him at Epsom meaning COD will prob ride the 2nd string Seville
May 8, 2011 at 21:25 #354493I thought RECITAL was ok performance there is no point of him winning by 5L today being made fav for derby then running a flat race at Epsom.Trail races are making sure you win them or put in a good performance.
May 8, 2011 at 21:35 #354502Ruby, having been around horses all my life I can tell you that Recital could well still be green at this stage of his career. He has been on a racetrack only a handful of times and he is only 3 years old. Some horses take longer to develop and mature than others mentally and to my eye his behaviour was typical napping. To horse people napping does not mean sleeping, it means a reluctance to move away from the herd and to be honest he gave me that vibe today. Talented horse in that he had the speed to shoot away from the others but mentally he was reticent about doing it, hence the head curled round to side and not going in a straight line
Very babyish behaviour and I would say this horse will benefit from a few more races under his belt so that he can get the hang of moving away from the herd, because this behaviour we ask from racehorses is very unnatural for them.
In any event I would not be hopeful for the derby I think it is too soon but later this season he may blossom.

fwiw Bobby, think Pour Moi has run a time figure around 9-10 lengths slower than Recital this weekend
May 8, 2011 at 21:41 #354504Yh i get the impression he is a top class Horse just whether the Derby will be his day.
Still trying to work it out in my own head and struggling. He just seems to scream class to me just whether Aidan can iron out those kinks
May 8, 2011 at 21:57 #354510Do you really have 500 euros on Recital Ruby? To be honest I think Recital is trying to work it all out in his head too and things are not quite clicking for him at the moment!
I think I read somewhere that Montjeus have a tendency to be quirky. Where that quote come from re Seville and his speed up the gallops compared with this fellow, pleasE?
The prices for WD and CH are ridiculous for maiden winners and the field is so open, rather like the Kentucky Derby we get a complete surprise result.
I had Admiral of the Red today simply because of his name and he looks like he might a modicum of talent after all!
Do you think Roddy OConnor and or Markmanship will line up in the Derby?
May 8, 2011 at 22:05 #354514Yes i do Admiral…struck me as soon as his maiden that this horse has a bit of engine in him. I might lay off but i wait until the day for that. He can only shorten IMO as the other 3 main contenders race next week and 2 will be beaten.
I know Montjeu’s are nightmares and especially Montjeu Fillys they are the most impossible horses to break. Very rarely does a Montjeu not have some quirks but O Brien will iron them out but when it comes to fillys their right offs. No body want them at the sales and studs cut them loose fairly quickly when he first came on the scene.
I wonder would going for the Irish Derby on a different track stop him hanging….and he will race their win or lose but maybe that will be his race. As usual the market will tell us how good he has been maturing race to race. If anything has shown this week with St Nick is that AOB can get a another tricky Montjeu over the finishing line hopefully in The Derby rather than Chester
May 8, 2011 at 22:25 #354520WOW Ruby you must be really rich! If he comes in at that price you got then jolly good for you I cannot do the math but I suspect you would be able to buy a car with the proceeds!
I just had a look at the entries again but it is really hard to see a standout. Casamento was a good horse last season but he did not look fluent in the guineas and his run undermines the form of Seville I think. His action on he ground at Newmarket was not a pretty site to be honest though perhaps he was just run off his feet by Frankel?
What about Dunboyne Express? I do not know so much about this Irish horse but i think he won something at G3 level recently?
Treasure Beach will be used as a pacemaker I suspect because most of Obriens pacemakers are usually winners at least at G3 level somewhere.
Carlton House was very impressive last season and as a romantic at heart I would love to see him win but absolutely no evidence to support his abilities to win a classic at this point. As for WD really not impressed by his performance in the maiden, keep wondering did I miss something as everybody else has been eulogizing about him. He looked pushed out to win by 4 and not eased down.
As for the others well I suppose Native Khan might have claims for a place but Nathaniel is not going to get near on the basis of the Chester form he needs further I think.
Incidentally what has been the highest rated Montjeu filly thus far? Is the highest Galileo filly Lush Lashes?
May 8, 2011 at 22:34 #354524Not rich just a student but back the opinion to the hilt and worked out okay so far.
ROC/Marksmanship prob wont run.
Re Montjeu filly’s think the highest is maybe Bikini babe but she is listed class so that show you how bad a filly maker he is compared to the colts.
The Derby is a very confusing race….would not surprise me if Genius Beast wins the Dante…loved his win at Newmarket a few weeks back.
Dunboyne wont travel and the oxx horses are once again as i said on this thread before very disappointing as per usual.
Bolger has got one…although Singe the Turf is yet to run and half brother to Soldier of Fortune
May 8, 2011 at 22:44 #354532Well Zarooni and Aidan are the ones in form at the moment I suppose!
Well I have been putting my disposable income into Bank of Scotland at 0% return and to be honest the difference in security of that bank on all known form v Recital on all known form is not as big as you would think!
Will Roderic go to the Irish 1000 or has he lost it for this season? He looked very small at Newmarket I must say.
Was very very pleased to see wee Nic back at Chester but the older horse division is very strong this year so I wonder where they can go with him?
DO you go to Trinity? Hope you do not mind me asking!
May 9, 2011 at 00:02 #354544Roderic O’Connor aimed at the Irish 2000.
Marksmanship out to 50s from 24s 2 days ago. Derby not looking likely. Only possible preps between now and Epsom are the Gowran Park Classic Trial and the Gallinule, won by Jan Vermeer last season. The latter comes a bit close to the race.
Montjeu fillies have a ridiculously low winning rate. It was 3% 2 years ago. They’re just so quirky it’s not true. Pink Symphony a prime example.
Galileo rarely produces good fillies because a) he’s not that good a sire and just gets sent all the good mares because he gives the illusion of being a good sire – his % of foals that win Stakes races is about 5%, very low, b) quite a lot of them go off to the breeding yard straight away, and c) Galileo fillies very rarely stay. Lush Lashes only got 12f in a slowly run single-number field and Allegretto’s won a Goodwood Cup, but very rarely do they get further than 10f.
Dunboyne Express has no chance and won’t run.
World Domination was extremely babyish in the paddock before running, Admiral. He was whinnying and really wanted his mother. His debut RPR was a very favourable one and Cecil very rarely hypes up his horses. I dare say he’s hyped up World Domination more than he did Frankel. I’ve certainly read a lot more about the former in the past 2 months that I did about the latter before and after his debut. Cecil’s horses come on a bundle for the run too. Look at Frankel’s maiden compared to what he did next time out. He’ll win the Dante. Genius Beast isn’t good enough and Seville’s too slow.
