2.10 Southwell – 5 furlongs – Forever’s Girl – 100/30 – Jockey: D. Fentiman
Rears up in the stall.
Gates Open.
Horse leaning against side of stall.
Monty blanket half off.
Blindfold comes off when others five lengths away.
Loses ten lengths.
Makes up ground.
In with a shout furlong out.
Finishes third.
Enzo reviews race afterwards, fails to mention Monty blanket or leaning on stalls. Goes to a break saying we’ll have a closer look when we come back and get a comment from course. Nothing further is said though admits lots of emails but closes subject. So much for punters who’ve backed Forever’s Girl (not me) but failed to get a satisfactory explanation.February 3, 2009 at 20:24 #207940All those followers of the weaver shark will be outraged!

Ken I haven’t touched the AW in months, think it just ruins the sport personally, too many at it.
February 3, 2009 at 21:20 #207946What is the purpose of this thread?
Are you suggesting the blindfold was deliberately left on the heavily backed Forever’s Girl?
February 3, 2009 at 21:21 #207947I suspect, Mr Wilson, that I’m inclined to agree with you. It seems to have a feel of the Statesides to it and far too many excuses for poor runs and inconsistencies compared to racing on grass. However, perhaps I’m overlooking the obvious such as quality and genuineness of the beasts.
February 3, 2009 at 21:39 #207949Many a debate there has been on here about AW and turf I’m sure, but AW racing has it’s purpose in the schedule. There are plenty of bad races and un-genuine sorts on the turf also.
February 3, 2009 at 21:58 #207957No, Smithy, I’m not suggesting there was anything untoward whatsoever. The thread was about the fact that Enzo of ATR gave shortshrift to an incident that required some explanation from either Jockey or Starter, if only to see if lessons could be learned. Especially considering it was a short price in the market and could clearly have won with a level start, ATR owed it to punters to analyse the start in greater detail. Was the Starter at fault in failing to see there was a problem with the horse? Did the Monty blanket interfere with the horse’s balance and force it to lean to the right of the stall? Did the Jockey not shout to the Starter?
Matt Chapman would have run a fine ruler over the incident.February 3, 2009 at 22:08 #207959There is a reason why Forever’s Girl was equipped with a blindfold and a Monty Roberts Rug, and it’s not that she likes the stalls too much. There is certainly nothing dubious to be made out of either the fact that the rug was still in place or that the filly was leaning on the stall. The former is standard as the rug is attached to the stall and comes away naturally when the horse exits; if the horse stands still, the rug will clearly stay on. The latter point is surely a mitigating factor, suggesting that it was the filly herself who was unable to get away as she was unbalanced as the gates opened, rather than being restrained.
February 3, 2009 at 22:19 #207966Thanks for that explanation Rory. Goes further than Enzo. Want a job on ATR?
