Rock of Gibraltar and Oratorio both ran seven times. It’s that Danehill Toughness (TM) you see ;)
I can’t see much chance of the ground being right for Teofilo at Saint-Cloud.
October 16, 2006 at 14:17 #80086Cheers Gareth
But without being an anorak, Teo is a Galileo!:)
October 16, 2006 at 14:23 #80087I know, I was just referring to the Oratorio/RoG common denominator. Speaking of which, Holy Roman Emperor has now also run 7 times, having been given a very similar campaign to those two.
October 16, 2006 at 15:11 #80088Generous ran six times as a 2-y-o including a Dewhurst win. (Derby, Irish Derby, King George at 3)
Rodrigo De Triano ran five times. (2000, Irish 2000, Juddmonte International, Champion Stakes)
Dr Devious ran six times (Derby, Irish Champion Stakes)
Off the top of my head, Don’t Forget Me and Tirol were raced five or six times as two year olds before their Guineas wins.
I’m sure there are plenty of others…

October 16, 2006 at 15:17 #80089Typical Bolger. When he gets one on the go he cant stop plundering prizemoney. Tropical Lady at her peak was running every week last summer! (Like M Hourigan with Beef Or Salmon. Raced him all over the place, even talking of racing him in Flat handicaps. Never thought of gearing a campaign to the Gold Cup but always went for it anyway because it was so valuable.)
Treating Teofilo like a handicapper.
October 16, 2006 at 15:30 #80090I think when you have one that has the potential Teofilo has you should look after it.
There would be nothing at all to be gained from going to France other than the prize money. The risks involved, when you have a horse for whom the potential is unlimited, are too high for me. Every step for him now should be carefully planned and should revolve around a UK Triple Crown.
Prep race(if needed) then Guineas, Derby, King George, St.Leger.
October 16, 2006 at 15:33 #80091Bolgers not one to underrace his horses though is he? If the horse is up to it I say go for it.
October 16, 2006 at 15:39 #80092Plenty thought Finsceal Beo going to the Rockfel looked a bit too much like pot hunting…
October 16, 2006 at 15:49 #80093Maybe they should have gotten Henrietta Knight to train him:biggrin:
I cant check at present due to my computer, but i think Teo filo (although by galileo) is actually out of the danehill mare spierbhean, making him a quarter danehill, half galileo and 100% pure class, which is why i suspect coolmore will try to cash in on him, he is coolmore through and through, they tend to buy up horses like this, that have slipped through the net, choisir, westerner, etc etc.
October 16, 2006 at 22:40 #80095I generally find that not just two year olds but most horses that undergo a hard season of top level races on firm ground are seldom the better for it in the end.
With two year olds it can be different as a lot of two year olds can be Danehills, Danzigs or Storm Cats who may not be very strong mentally but are just so far ahead physically that they can stand out amongst horses who are physically weaker. These horses are usually found out when the weaker ones catch up at 3. Galileos/Saddlers wells etc are better horses at 3 and teofilo is a big rangy horse who just needs to fill. A saddlers wells decent with his sort of turn of foot etc (unbeaten at 2yo in 7f events) is almost unheard of he has everything you could possibly want, HRE looks the more likely to lose his edge by next year, but Teofilo looks sure to go from strength to strength. I think that there is a much higher likelyhoood that he will progress, I just hope, for the sake of racing, that he can avoid injury and we can witness a monster next year.

He is a master trainer.

October 17, 2006 at 13:15 #80097I wouldnt worry anyway, the ground will be bottomless and he won’t run. Bolger hasn’t put a foot wrong with him so far so even if it was dry and he did run I would be happy to put some faith in the trainer’s decisions.
Classic Quote my friend…love it…Jim Bolger knows more than all of us put together he won’t make a bad call…Teo will be wearing the dark blue next year also….Hourigan is right with Beef or Salmon too..
March 10, 2007 at 13:48 #996Have heard that HRE has been retired to stud, but he’s not injured…
Seems a little bizarre, but the story is backed up by the prices on Betfair
March 10, 2007 at 15:03 #43011Certainly looks to be out the Guineas. Unlikely he’d be retired without an injury. A pity as it would have been nice for those that suggest he was unlucky in the Dewhurst to have seen Teofilo beat him for a third time.
March 10, 2007 at 16:07 #43012Those antepost bets on Teofilo are looking better by the minute!
