EASTLAKE – form figures immediately prior to his 33/1 win at Cheltenham last weekend PP.
REGAL ENCORE – form figures immediately prior to winning at 20/1 this afternoon PP.
Both races saw well backed favourites (Vaniteux and Minella Daddy) thwarted by back the back to form McManus owned horses.
Far be it from me to suggest anything untoward. However, in a fortnight when the integrity of the sport has been called into question in certain quarters, is it not remiss of the stewards to at least enquire into these perfomances?
December 18, 2016 at 00:05 #1277708There are endless examples. In recent weeks I have highlighted serious market drifters – Stretchingthetruth and Midnight Maestro – who have absolutely bombed.
If the BHA were that bothered about the integrity of the sport they would already have created a Department just to look at the running and riding of McManus horses.
All we get from the media is endless drivel about him keeping half the industry in employment, all his charity work blah blah blah…………
Every year the worst sight at the Festival is JP’s grinning face entering the winner’s enclosure.

Lettheriverrundry and Upswing
next time out.
Could turn out to be a good system
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...December 18, 2016 at 12:27 #1277744No rules for the green and gold. They aren’t the only ones of course but they are the most prominent. Fitzhenry in the first at navan is another example of a non trier. Maiden hurdles in Ireland with 25/30 runners are a McManus play ground. Enter and run 5/6 horses and hope that their zero effort isn’t noticed.
If anyone here can argue, in their previous runs that regal encore and eastlake were sent out in race fit shape to achieve the best possible placing then I’d like to hear their argument
December 18, 2016 at 13:47 #1277759Jonjo was in crap form, with 54 runs without a win before Eastlake’s last “P” and another 15 afterwards. Trainer in much better form when the horse won. Eastlake also has a fibrillating heart, so you can expect a lot more P’s to his name than the average racehorse. So – on the face of it – reasons for inconsistency fairly obvious; so I see no need for an enquirey.
Nevertheless, taking in to account trainer and owner – even with all the above: Reason why I did not back Eastlake is I thought he would be trained purely for the Spring. However, can hardly complain that connections actually were trying.
Value Is EverythingDecember 18, 2016 at 14:18 #1277774Regal Encore’s chance was more than the “P”s suggested too, which was why he didn’t start 66/1. Going ok (though possibly needed reappearance) mid-div when bad mistake in Hennessey and immediately pulled up.
Going well enough in rear in Unicoin – too far out to know what would’ve happened – when badly hampered twice, by Coggry and Out Sam’s falls and immediately pulled up. Again, the reasons for the PU’s fairly obvious, so no point holding an enquirey.Value Is EverythingDecember 18, 2016 at 14:31 #1277777Some “P”s from JP are worth enquiring into, not these.
Value Is EverythingDecember 18, 2016 at 14:51 #1277786Eastlake looks like a bit of an ‘all or nothing’ merchant these days, presumably due to the physical problem previously discussed. He’s got a pretty good record of 12 wins from 39 so a win even after a couple of duff runs hardly looks a surprise. A similar pattern of form might be seen in a ‘bleeder’, as such horses can run well fresh and then their form tails off as the problem re-appears.
As GingerTipster said Regal Encore’s two pulled ups this season had excuses.
I don’t get the idea that you are not allowed to win a race having been pulled up in your previous race…
December 18, 2016 at 15:35 #1277799These results aren’t good for racing plain and simple.
And I didn’t hear Honeyball get called in front of the stewards – I can only assume that he was already waiting outside having started making his way there as soon as the tape was lifted.

What is wrong with these results, Chrarles?

If connections were plotting these wins why weren’t they’d both well backed winners?
JP likes a bet and there’s no way they’d start 33/1 and 20/1 if he had backed them.Value Is Everything - AuthorPosts
